Do I need a florida state contractors license to repair commercial and residential cooking appliances? I was told you don't need a state contractors license to repair appliances in Florida but want to know for sure , I tried to find the info online but couldn't find a good source. i also was told you can work on refrigerators and coolers with out a license cause they have little refrigerants in them. and all i want to do is repair them not install whole systems. Pros and Cons of filing a case with CSLB (Contractors State License Board)? A popular contractor referral web site connected me to a sales person who in turn signed a home improvement contract and arranged to get the building permits. Then the sales person brought a licensed contractor and made the contractor sign the contractor. Both of them convinced me and took about 30% of project value in payments while the work done till now is about 20%. Now that the sales person gone out of picture, contractor is asking me to pay 15% more money for the same scope blaming the sales person for accepting incorrect prices though he signed the contract. I am also worried that he may not stop just with this 15% increase. I came to know about CSLB. I am contemplating the pros and cons of filing a case. I am not sure whether CLSB claim processing may delay my project. Also not sure what kind of documentation CSLB needs to process the claim. Any inputs are appreciated.

Do I need a contractors License for Installation work that is not permanently attached to a structure? I have a company that produces Laser Etched art work on Granite. My question is, do I need to be a licensed contractor in the state of California when I do instalations? We Virtuallly always we use z-clips to mount our etchings to the wall. We are not permantly attached anywheres other then some screws into the studs. The cost would be generaly over $500 to install. (This of coarse includes travel etc.) The way I understand it is if your not permanantly attaching to the structure your not required to have a license. how can i find out if a building contractor is license in state of mn? he is my brother in law in minnesota and set us up with loan with his so called mortgage co. now house is 5 months over due, he's not having work done there in a while. So I went to their website and found two applications: one called "License Application" and one called "Certificate of Registration Application". Do I need both? What's the difference? I just did a background check on the name of the man who came to my home & did an installation job. He was sent by a big name firm & he told me that he was also a licensed contractor & he'd glady do "side" work. I did a auperior court background check in my county after I was asked to sign additional documents that were not part of the original work order from the big name firm. Can just anyone report a contractor working without a licence? In CA it is a misdemeanor for an unlicensed contractor to do more than $500 in work on a single project. This law cannot be "waived" by the customer. (California Business & Professions Code sections 7028 & 7048). But the question is this: Can someone such as a neighbor of the homeowner report the contractor that the homeowner hired (to the Contractors State License Board, local police department, attorneys office, dept of insurance, etc,) even if they (the neighbor) have no evidence of them being payed more than $5000? If they simply see and hear weeks of work going on by that "contractor" and can prove that this contractor's license expired 8 years ago?

Should people need a license to have children? Contractors need a license from the state to show that they are qualified to do that work, why should we not apply the same standards to would be parents, whose skills in that area are far more out reaching than a contractors.
