Looking for insurance requirements for sub-contractor on hurricane debris clean-up, FEMA funded.? I have been told, that a sub-contractor has to have proof of "bond" ? insurance when doing debri clearing. Would this be a FEMA requirement or a requirement of the main contractor? If anyone out there has either done this type of work or is a sub-contractor who has done this kind of work, I could really use help me with this question. Individual he worked for is being of no help as yet.

What requirements do I need to be hired as an independent contractor for a UK firm (I'm an American citizen)? The UK company would like to hire me immediately. What is the most efficient way to go about being hired legally (or at least, not illegally) as an independent contractor? Any Web site links would be helpful. Please, no HSMP or "opening up my own business" suggestions, as I don't qualify. The less speculative the answer, the more appreciated (in other words, I'd love to hear from those who have personal knowledge or experience with this). Thank you!

I am a licensed California general contractor, what do I need to do to be licensed in Texas.? I am thinking about moving to El Paso texas and would like to continue working as a general contractor over there. What are the requirements of that state. Can I somehow "transfer" my license over by filling out the propper forms and paying the propper fees? I have been licensed for 6 years in California and I would imagine that this state would be one of the more difficult to work in. Any insight for Texas?
Exit interview a requirement of an independent contractor? I am an independent contractor and have recently terminated my services with a particular agency because I was unhappy with the way the agency was treating me. As a contractor I understand my rights and limitations and that I am not elligible for the benefits an employee is, but the trade off is the freedom, independence and control I maintain over my own work. A recent agency for whom I provided services treated me an other contractors as employees. They required attendance at team meetings, supervised every step and process in completion of the work assigned, required regular work hours, etc. If I wanted to be an employee, I would be one, but I like the work I do as an independent contractor. I do not enjoy being treated as an employee and yet be cheated out of employee benefits. Anyway, I terminated mu contract. Now the agency is requiring I participate in an exit interview. I declined based on the busyness of my schedule, the fact that the office is located nearly 2 hours from where I am moving, and the discomfort I feel at being cornered by the agency owner who is somewhat of a bully and is upset that I am terminating my contract. My question is, I am not required to attend this interview as a contractor, correct? She stated in an email to me that I am in fact required and that my claim of my rights as treatment like a contractor only pertains to IRS laws. My understanding is that if you are treated like an employee then by law (according to the IRS) the agency is required to file you as an employee. She seems to believe she is above this law. My only concern is that if I do not go to this exit interview, she will sit on the payment she owes me. I would love some insight, guidance, advice whatever, and any legal statements to back it up so I can reference them to her and let her know that she is in violation of the federal IRS laws. Thanks!

Thank you.
Why would an employer hire a new employee vs. hiring an existing contractor? What would make an employer hire a new employee vs. hiring an existing contractor. Our team has many that have met and exceeded goals and performace. Some contractors have been here for many years and can't get hired. The requirements of the job are equal to that of several contract employees on the team. How would expect this to go over regarding morale?
Looking for Idaho State contractors license registration requirements? I am seeking to register with the state of Idaho, according to the new state law, that all contractors are to be registered. I don't know where to go, or what the requirements are for the type of contractor I am. Can you help? I believe this may involve the Industrial Commission.
Requirements when wanting to remodel and rent a home? I live in California and am curious as of the requirements/paperwork needed to be able to possibly purchase a small home, re-landscape, as well as re-carpet/tile floors and such of the like, to then rent. Would a basic contractors license work, or are there many different angels which must be covered as well?
What is the proper way to report income for a tutoring position as an independent contractor? I have been offered a part-time tutoring position. I would be working as an independent contractor. I'm not sure if this would even be a consistent income but I believe that over time I would be increasing the hours I tutor. I'd like to know what is the proper procedure for reporting small amounts of income like this. Would it fall under self-employment where I'd have to pay estimated quarterly taxes. Is there a minimum you have to expect to earn before this is a requirement? Thanks!
What are the differences between a landscape architect, contractor, and designer? Can someone tell me the differences in those fields as in what their job responsibilities are, skill requirements, salary, etc? Thank you very much! :) I am incredibly interested in Landscape Architecture, however, there are limited colleges near me (I already have to drive 2 hours to Tampa for LA college). Also, I am currently a concept artist/illustrator and skilled with Photoshop, so maybe landscape designer is best for me?
Anyone know about requirements needed for a construction company in co? I have an oppurtunity to build a project that is ready to go. I have a contractor liscense but have always worked for other builders. I am wondering about specific insurances. A good baseline for square footage build pricing. And any other requirments an experienced small builder would know. I know quit a bit about the building industry but have not done it in Colorado. The product is multi-family.
Is "the plan that you draw up" grammatically correct in this sentence? ------------ Thank you for your letter dated 10 October informing the planned close-out of the project that will be carried out. Our office has reviewed *the plan that you draw up* and we are pleased to approve this close-out plan. We also want to remind you that the contractor has a responsibility to ensure that all requirements in the agreement have been met.
what are HUD requirements for pier & post foundations / skirting? several years ago I heard that it was necessary to upgrade the skirting around the base of my pier and post (floating) type foundatiion. the original skirting is just aesthetic. Is it true that in order qualify my house for FHA / VHA sale I need to upgrade to a steel structurally supportive foundation? If so are there any contractors in San Diego that know about this and will do it? How do I locate them, or even the specs on what needs to be done?
replacing broken water heater with new water heater - new water heater must meet new requirements? My old water heater broke down yesterday and I called Home Depot to replace it. The contractor came with the new water heater and before he installed anything.. said that my current water heater setup was not up to code. I assume this is some sort of building code / requirement. I wasn't too sure if it's even possible for him to charge additional fees which was not mentioned to me over the phone by Home Depot. The problem is, if I didn't let him do the work, I'll be without hot water for the next 3 days. ( I also have a baby at home, so not having hot water is IMPOSSIBLE). The additional charge came out to $591.00 + the cost of the water heater. The contractor said, the $591.00 is for labor / parts so that the new water heater is up to California code, includes a permit for the local building inspector to come and sign off if work was done correctly. My question is... Does the new installation have to meet the new California building code? My old water heater was install in1979
Can city goverment legally keep me from building if I meet all of their requirements? We are trying to build a camp for kids with special medical needs near Yosemite in California. Our county government keeps denying us our permits for one of the buildings. We meet all their requirements and then they will find some reason to deny us our permits. We have talked with local contractors and builders and noone else is required to do the things we are being made to do. Is thee anything illegal about this? Your help is appreciated.
What are my requirements for beginning a tutoring business? I am starting a small tutoring business. I wanted to know what is required of me to get started. Should I hire employees or independent contractors? If independent contractors, what must I do or not do to make sure I am doing things correctly and don't get in trouble or sued? Do I need a business plan or a business license? I want to make sure that everything is legal. Thank you.
Does working an apprentice plumber count as working experience? I looked at the requirements in Arizona to have a plumbing contractor license, and says it requires 4 years experience,I think the apprenticeship does count but wanted to make sure.I live in Mesa,Arizona,so if anybody knows the rules for this particular state that would be helpful.
How do we install a half-bath on our ground floor? On the ground floor, we have our kitchen and washer dryer near where we would put a half-bath. We've used Google to look for instructions, but haven't found much. The floor is cement (in the laundry room), tile in the kitchen, and hardwood in the dining room. (We are thinking a nook in between the laundry, dining room, and kitchen is the best place.) Please explain the basic steps for us to get started (do we need a designer?) and some basic info about what we'll need to do (pipes, licenses, tearing up the floor, what to avoid, etc.) I'm not concerned about *choosing* fixtures; we're just trying to figure out plumbing, hook-ups, & requirements. We're brave do-it-yourselfers! If you have good books or good websites to recommend, please do. (Please be very specific!) We would like to do all the labor ourselves, but will consult a contractor or designer for planning if needed. Also: what's the minimum square footage required for a 1/2 bath? Thanks, everyone! We don't have blueprints for our house, incidentally; it is 200 years old! Currently, we have a full bath on our 2nd floor, which is the floor above the ground floor. We could also consider a half bath on our third floor, just above the current full-bath. Would that actually be easier ?
When is a contractor's license required in Arizona? I do residential painting but am interested in starting commercial. What are the license requirements and what are the criteria for obtaining a license? Do I need a license if the job pays more than $750??
What experience is needed for a job in the anti-fraud industry and how can I get it while working full time? I am currently working in the DC metro area as a background investigator (government contractor). I'd like to get into the anti-fraud industry (maybe insurance fraud/white collar crime); however, I don't know what the essential tools are for these types of jobs. I have a bachelors degree. I am willing to go back to school and/or take professional courses, but I don't know where to begin and don't want to waste my money. I don't think I want to stay in the DC area forever, so learning about requirements in the private industry is very important to me. Thank you.
How do I get this certain license ? Ok how do I get a license for an electrical contractor in Florida? And what are the requirements? If you can get this answered by 3 hours that would help alot! Thank you!
Designing, purchasing and installing an automatic gate opener for a driveway? I live in a home with a detached garage in the backyard and we have a chain link fence gate between the front and back yard. It's unwieldy to get back to the garage with a car b/c we have to get out of the car each time to open and close the gate. I've been looking into contracting out or installing an automatic gate opener. It just needs to fit one car. I've done research and was curious if someone had a recommended vendor or contractor in the central Texas area. Also, any experience with a particular brand of opener or gate? And any experience with design requirements for automatic gates?
Independent Contractor Status Misclassification? I work for a summer door-to-door alarm sales company and am paid as an independent contractor. No taxes, social security etc are removed from my check. The pay I receive is based solely on the number of alarm systems I set up. The company withholds 50%(ish) of my compensation to a check that will be given to me at the end of the summer, but which I will not receive if I fail to stay the entire summer. Now, the company "fired" me recently because we have a set schedule of hours that we must go knock doors for (as outlined by a set of rules and regulations). My question is, if they are able to micromanage like that, doesn't that classify me as an employee? What is the official stance of the requirements for "firing" an IC? If I have been misclassified, what can I do? Am I still eligible to receive my end of the summer check, since I did not leave voluntarily? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me any info regarding this at calljami@isu.edu
Murder should both be charged. Has the contractor a conscience? http://nz.news.yahoo.com//070529/3/jpj.html Woman dies after power company cuts her off Photo : NZPA Police have spoken to the family of a woman who died soon after a power company shut off power to her home oxygen machine. Mangere woman Folole Muliaga, 44, was an early childhood teacher and mother of four children aged from five to 18. A relative who married into Mrs Muliaga's family, Brenden Sheehan, told NZPA she had been off work since February with an illness. Mrs Muliaga's husband Lopa, a chef's assistant, had been forced to reduce his work hours in order to care for her. The family had been in New Zealand for six years, and were confident English speakers, Mr Sheehan said. When a Mercury Energy representative arrived to cut the power supply, the family had explained the circumstances, and had brought the person inside the house to show the representative the oxygen machine, he said. "They didn't (have a medical certificate) at that moment in time. They clearly could have got one had they been given an opportunity to do so." Mr Sheehan said police had talked this morning to the family, who expected to be interviewed again later today. Auckland law lecturer Bill Hodge said today if what the family said was true the contractor could face a manslaughter charge. Today Inspector Bruce Bird, area commander for Counties Manukau west, said today police would investigate the death. "We will have a look at the whole circumstances...and make a decision on what the facts tell us and review that. It was too early early to speculate on what, if any charges, may be laid. Mercury Energy general manager James Moulder said the company was devastated by the woman's death but would not say how much money was owed on the power bill. "I don't talk about customer arrangements with anyone but customers." He said the company had expressed its deep condolences to the family. "We are incredibly remorseful. "We are now working through just to understand exactly what did occur." He said he had heard the suggestion the power was cut off in spite of the protestations of the family. "We haven't verified that internally ourselves yet. "I can't really comment on something I am not 100 percent sure on." He said the company was still talking to contractors and getting details. Mr Moulder said if there was an "issue", the contractor or disconnect agent should call Mercury before the power was cut off. "We do have procedures in place to deal with medical emergencies or issues of hardship." He said Mercury's procedures were clear. "If the event there is a medical reason the person needs power, then the disconnect processes are quite different," Mr Moulder said. Mr Moulder said he had offered Mr Sheehan and the family his personal condolences. "They were received as you would expect but obviously it is an extremely trying time. "This is an absolute tragedy. We are as devastated as anyone about what has occurred." Although Mr Moulder would not talk about how much money was owed, it may have been only a month or two of power. He said generally after a bill was sent, it should be paid within 21 days. Ten to 14 days after that 21-day period a reminder notice was sent and seven to 10 days after that the next month's bill would include a "message saying that the previous month was overdue, please pay otherwise disconnection will occur. "Seven days after that we send a final disconnect (notice) saying if you don't pay within 48 hours you power is going to be disconnected." Mr Moulder said that meant disconnection was likely more than a month or six weeks after the initial 21-day period given to pay the bill. "We always arrange to disconnect while people are on the premises as well. We disconnect in the morning so we can reconnect soon afterwards in the afternoon if payment has been made," he said. Power was restored to the house about 8am today. A spokeswoman for State Owned Enterprises Minister Trevor Mallard said he was concerned by the death. "The minister is taking this incident extremely seriously and will be demanding accountability," she said. "He has asked for an urgent report from the SOE." Green Party MP Sue Bradford called for a public inquiry into the death describing the decision to cut the power as ``mercenary''. ``Is there no social responsibility requirement? No code of conduct? Listening to the company spokesperson this morning it would seem the company sees it as entirely the responsibility of the consumer to make contact, provide documentation and argue their right to be allowed to live,'' she said. ``Surely there is some flexibility to use compassion and common sense in this type of very rare situation.
Any opinions on Carolina Carports Incorporated in Mount Airy, NC? I am considering installing a metal roof on my residence. The contractor estimated quote was 3,000. He said he used carport, inc. of Mt Airy, NC for his supplies. Does this company have a good rating on their materials? Do metal roofs add value to the home? Are they meeting the EnergyStar requirements?
Does independent contractor wages count when determining unemployment eligibility? I'm reading the eligibility requirements for KY Unemployment, and am a bit confused. It seems that benefits are based on the last 5 quarters of employment, excluding the current quarter. I started my job in July 2007, and got let go in June 2008 - this would count as 3 quarters, right? With the exception of a few independent contractor jobs (mystery shopping), I did not earn wages in from Jan-July 2007. Will I be denied eligibility? ** I did claim all independent contractor wages on my 2007 taxes
