How do I separate my jobs/writeoffs for taxes for 3 jobs, 1 an Independent Contractor job? Job 1: Independent Contractor (has writeoffs for gas, office supplies, etc.) Job 2: Employee (has writeoffs for gas, office supplies, etc.) Job 3: Employee Also, I have $1500 in interest for student loans. How do I separate all of these for my tax filing? I work from home as an employee. That's why I have office supplies on there. Who protects independent contractors from businesses who demand free work to obtain paying jobs? Working as an independent contractor in the construction trades who is told I have to unload the weekly semi-trailer load of materials for free in order to be given installation jobs. If I don't show up to unload the truck, I don't have a job. But I like what I do and don't want to quit. I am also tired of being forced to work for free so the owners don't have to pay someone to do it.
What are the jobs of a CIA Independent Contractors?? Do cia independent contractors perform actual operations such as surveillance, undercover ops, and intelligence gathering and covert action missions or do they handle agents like cia case officers. PLEASE SERIUS ANSWERS ONLY YA I LOVE SERIUS RADIO :) GET A LFE I meant people like Billy Waugh
Are more independent contractors charging less due to the poor economy? My sister was getting bids for some interior house painting. The three small businesses were almost fighting for the job (Like price wars). The same thing for her tile work. Many contractors in our area are having to lay off employees and doing the work themselves with family members at reduced bids just to stay afloat. Is it better for an independent contractor to try and get 5 jobs by bidding less thus working harder/more hours? Or 3 jobs at a higher rate thus possibly missing out or making less income by having less work?
Hiring non-US citizens as independent contractors overseas? We run a translation company in California. We want to hire Canadian and British citizens as independent contractors; they do translation jobs in their own countries, not in the US. What do we need to accomplish it in terms of tax documents? Also, how do we report it when we file taxes? Thank you for your help in advance.
How can I figure taxes for an independent contractor in Texas? This is in Texas so there is no income tax. The independent contracter would earn around $600 every 2 weeks with no taxes taken out. I understand that it is best to file these taxes quarterly, however how would the contractor go about filing them, and how would the contractor know how much they will owe so that they can know how much to set aside each paycheck? The contractor also has another job in which they are considered an employee that pays $225-$250 every 2 weeks, however taxes are taken out of this regularly if this matters at all to the independent contractor job
W-4 form advice needed for an independent contractor? I have a full-time job and a part-time independent contractor job. On my full-time job's W-4 form there is a line for "additional money withheld." Can that be used to pay the taxes for the money I make as an independent contractor or does that have to be paid separately quarterly?
Currently receiving unemployment beniftits but accepting an independent contractor job? Hello, My question is the following: I am currently receiving unempoyment benifts in Illinois. I am starting an independent contracting job in August. I will receive $4,000 in August but after that it is 100 % commision. If I do not sell anything and receive 0 money can I collect unemployment insurance in the future for the months of October,November and December? Can a person who sells products, such as avon, as an independent contractor still collect unemployment? I was recently medically discharged from the army and am receiving unemployment. If i was to start selling products, not Avon but a similar business type, not full-time, no benefits, etc.. would I still be able to get unemployment? (I know you can't get unemployment if you quit/lose an independent contractor job, thats not what i am asking. ) Also, if you can't do that, what are the penalties for collecting unemployment while also selling Avon? Serious answers only please!
What does it take to become an independent on taxes? I just got a job with vector, and it an independent contractor job, which means i can write off business expenses on my taxes. the only problem is that i live with my parents still, and am a senior in high school. So basically i just want to know what all i need to do to become an independent, instead of a dependent on my parents taxes
How can I keep independent contractors from stealing my customers in California? I have a small IT business in California and I need to hire independent contractors from time to time. Recently, one of the people I hired for a job went to my customer and told them he would do the same work I do for them, except he would do it cheaper. I've heard that non-compete agreements are illegal in California, so how am I supposed to protect my business?
How and Where I can find contractors and jobs in Afghanistan and Gulf area? Using Internet you run into many irrelevant sites or places looking to charge you something. It seems like there should be a way of getting the list of Contractors working for US, Nato working overseas, so I can go to them with applications for jobs. I am fluent in English, Farsi, Dari, and a little bit of Turkish spoken in Afghanistan, Iran and the former Soviet Republics that are now independent.
What is an independent contractor job? This is what the job says "It is a contract based job. Candidate will submit monthly invoices and be responsible for their own taxes." so what exactly does this mean? Thanks!
How do independent contractors do taxes? I just got a new job and was told I would be an independent contractor. I understand that they don't take taxes out, but that's about all I know. How much should I save from each paycheck to be able to pay taxes back at the end of the year? And also I heard I might have to fill out paperwork every 3 months or so, is this true and for what reason? Is there any other information I should know?
Can independent contractors apply for food stamps? If someone is an independent contractor, like as a guide for ChaCha answering questions can they apply for food stamps? My friend wants to know. She is almost 19 and in college full-time, has no other job, just answers questions for ChaCha,and she lives in her parents house. Her parents get food stamps but they took her off because of her age.
can independent contractors wages be garnished? my job is a driver for a courier company. i am considered an independent contractor, i have a contract with the company so technically i am self-employed. i dont pay taxes they are not taken out of my check, its done at end of year. so hypothetically, if a debt collector tried to garnish my wages could they do that? i receive a check as a settlement for my work each week. it is sent from the corporate office to the office where i work. could they touch that since technically im self employed. i hope not. can someone tell me?
How are Non-compete agreements illegal for independent contractors? If I am an independent DJ and have to supply my own music can the company prevent me from playing outside the organization for a year? Does the IRS consider me an employee because I am told when and where to work? Can a company prevent me from having more than one job within the same field when there are no secrets involved ( as would be found in a scientific setting)?
Independent Contractors, Employees, and filing Taxes.? Alright I will be as specific as I can. I have 2 jobs, one as an Independent Contractor, the other as an Employee. I was trying to file my taxes and it said I owed almost $800! I didn't make that much last year but am having a lot of issues trying to file. I tried the itemized deductions but on Turbo tax and H&R Block they said that because I do "independent contracting" work I'm considered self employed and must pay the tax for that. Between both Jobs I only made about $12,000, that's less than a year's worth of my rent. I'm a full time student as well. Also, at the job where I was an employee I worked more hours and made more money then I did as an independent contractor. Let's say $6,100 and $5,900 respectively because they were fairly close. If I paid my taxes as an employee, and I get the refund from that job, how do I go so far into the red because of the Contracting Job? Apparently I don't qualify for a lot of the tax discounts but I'm a renter, I'm 21, I live on my own (with 1 roommate), I am financially reliant on no one, I receive no money from my parents. I received Scholarships in the amount of $850 but that went straight to tuition and I never saw a penny of it. I'm very confused how to handle my taxes because I can't afford to pay almost $800 to the IRS when I make so little a year. I live in California and I realize the deadline is coming very soon. Is there anything I can do? The only thing I can think of is dispute my contractor status and try to force my "employer" to pay for it (It's very complicated but in short I'm only legally a contractor but am treated as an employee). Can someone help me? Sorry, I should've specified. I have one W2 and one 1099-Misc. I also have a 1098-T for School. I didn't realize I was paying almost 8% more on my independent contractor job and ty so much for the link. So... as I mentioned before I'm only an "independent contractor" on paper. I have no other real job expenses associated with it. The lady who issued me the 1099 provides me with everything I need to work with (paper, pens, fax machine etc.) I walk to work, and don't spend any more towards the business. I just go there and get paid. Just like an employee but I get the 1099-misc instead of a W2. Since I have no legitimate expenses involved in being an independent contractor does that mean I'm stuck paying her half and mine? My boss tells us we are "independent contractors" however all that I have read about being an independent contractor vs. being an employee says otherwise. Ex. She makes our hours and we have to request time off like anyone else. She trained us to do everything we do there. We get paid hourly and only minimum wage. There are 8 of us that work there, some have worked there for years, and this job shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
How do you find independent contractor/bid jobs? I'm wondering if anyone knows where you can find independent contractor jobs or like project jobs that you bid on... My girlfriend works with a guy who bids on various repair jobs, maintenance jobs, landscaping, etc. They're all bid or independent contract and I can't seem to find any and the dude won't tell her where he finds them.
"Independent Contractor" job, how do I figure my own taxes? I am looking at a job where I sell memberships to a site. They label me as a independent contractor so I would have to pay my own taxes at the end of the year. How can I figure out my taxes so I can save enough to be able to pay them? Could I send in my money each check instead of end of the year? Also, would I have to pay my own Social Security? I am a single mother of an autistic toddler, and without a car or approved daycare. I live in income based housing. Would becoming an independent contractor for this company and paying my own taxes hurt me more than help? Advice from those who have done stuff like this is apreciated.
I am an independent contractor, how much should i set aside for taxes? I recently got a job as an independent contractor in ohio and file single with no dependents, how much should i keep out for taxes and what can i use as deductions etc... Any comments will be a help. i am paid by personal check and am responsible for withholding all my own taxes he does not match anything he owns the company pays me for working there so is that self employed or ind. contractor
Can programmers work as independent contractors? Can programmers (i.e. fluent in Java, C++, HTML, Python) work as independent contractors for money on the side? I've heard of this sort of thing but where can I find out more information on it? How does it exactly work? Is it like a part time job, or is it all during the internet. Any answers are appreciated.... I am getting a bachelors in Info Systems btw....
Independent Contractor, Traveling Job...What records to I need to keep? I am fixing to sign a contract with a company. I cannot divulge too much information here, as it is a covert type position (evaluations). My pay will be $800 to $1000 a month, minimum, but the job will require somewhat extensive of traveling to various locations the company owns throughout the state. I assume that basically, all I will have to do is track my meals while working, gasoline expenses, and then ensure I take enough percentage out of my monthly check for taxes. Should I just do actual cost on my gasoline (by keeping gas station receipts) or should I use the CPM? Also, would vehicle maintenance or repairs be something I should track and take off of my "profit"? How about the use of my home office equipment, considering I will be submitting reports online? At this point in time, Independent Contracting is all I will be doing, so I won't have customers buying from me or anything, but I DO have a tax number now. So, anything else I need to know? Thanks!!
I know these "field inspector" jobs exist so where are they and who is seeking help now? I found one Real Estate brokerage firm that needed help in doing evaluations on bank non performing assets by taking photos of the property, etc., but they are needing it done for the FL area and I live in Texas. To help you better understand what I am talking about, I found the ad through Telecraig's site. http://miami.craigslist.org/ofc/430680640.html I am interested in doing this kind of work, but need to know who is needing help. As it is hard to find these independent contractor opportunities and/or jobs. I thought they were called Field Inspectors, but looks like these opportunities are given different job titles, which is not helping me out at all. Is there anyone doing this kind of work or do you know of a company in need of this kind of work? And how much do you get paid per assignment or property visited? Please let me know. Thanks greatly and have a great day. I just found another link, but I used Google with the terms: you will need a car, phone, computer and a digital camera. http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/etc/420934733.html And it's still not in my area. UGH!!!!!!!! Please help!
Does independent contractor wages count when determining unemployment eligibility? I'm reading the eligibility requirements for KY Unemployment, and am a bit confused. It seems that benefits are based on the last 5 quarters of employment, excluding the current quarter. I started my job in July 2007, and got let go in June 2008 - this would count as 3 quarters, right? With the exception of a few independent contractor jobs (mystery shopping), I did not earn wages in from Jan-July 2007. Will I be denied eligibility? ** I did claim all independent contractor wages on my 2007 taxes
what exactly is a independent contractor and how is it going to affect my taxes? i've been offered a job as an independent contractor. since i have no idea what that was i researched it and it somewhat makes since. but.... how is this status going to change my taxes and what eligible expenses (write-offs) can i expect? i'm not understanding the tax part of it.... is it good or bad? thanks in advance for your time!!
what are the laws if your working as an independent contractor? i currently work 2 jobs both as an independent contractor...what are the laws for working like this? what if my company does shady stufF? I know i need to pay taxes thats not what i mean, i guess my questions should be "what are my rights as an independent contractor" any one know of any good websites ?
checklilst for independent contractors? Changing jobs from Employee with all benefits to Independent Contractor, want some advice on choosing Health Ins, life insurance, 401k etc...can anyone recommend a checklist?
Unemployment benefits and Independent contractor question? Ok, lost job due to the economy, and after job searching for weeks it seemed as if it would be a WHILE before I find a job within my field. So... I started working for myself, as an independent contractor and i do promotions, and you're considered to NOT be an employee of those promotion agencies... and you get a check in like 4 weeks.... and they are WAY under $600. My promo agencies said they had girls to lose jobs and said its okay to still work just as long as u dont make over $600. Cuz then they will have to give you a W2 when tax time comes. And IRS will know u worked. QUESTION: Should I report these earnings when I claim weeks?? Will i lose unemployment benefits?? Or will they subtract when I made out of the unemployment benefit?? I've only done 2 so far. **Also this is not considered a REAL job, you only get to work for like 1 day, for about 6 hours, for an hourly rate and you get your check in the mail in 4 weeks later, and thats it. And you look for another one. Some promo jobs go for 2 or 3 days... and i signed up for one going for 5 days. Then after that, you're done, and its time to look for another independent contractor job/promotion. And in my city they don't come around often enough for me to just rely on promo jobs to pay bills til I get Job. Should I report the earnings? What about the 2 that I already did? (didnt get the money yet still waiting a few weeks).
I am at a job that considers me a independent contractor. How do I do my income tax filing? They take no taxes out where I work. I was wondering if anyone knows how I file. Do I just tell tehm how much I made, then have then take the deductions out then. I usually get alot of money back because of me being a single father of two. So, the thought was, that I would pay it in at tax time, then most likely get most of it refunded. Is this how this works? Thanks for anyone who helps!
I am an independent contractor, how much am I really making? I just started an office job, and I am classified as an independent contractor. I found out that I have to pay more taxes as an ind. contractor, my employer told me to save half of my check for taxes! i am being paid $18/hr, does this mean that I am really only netting $9/hr after all is said and done? Thanks for your help! After reading these comments and chcking the IRS website, I doubt I am an independent contractor by definition. I am a recptionist/administrative assistant, I have set hours, do what they tell me when they tell me and how they tell me. The place I work is a high-tech company, def. not a pyramid scheme as far as I can tell, the place is full of engineers.
how much does AAA pay its roadside assistance independent contractors? Considering contracting with AAA preforming just roadside assistance with no Towing. I work for one company and they pay 12.50 a job. I hear that AAA pays its own guys only 8 a job but they do use AAA vehicles with AAA paying for gas. But if you contract out with them using your own car they pay anywhere from 20-30. I know I can contact them to find out but just curious if anyone out there know this now. Thanks!
I was hired as an independent contractor and then job stopped.? I was hired as an independent contractor for a company and was told I would get "x" amount of dollars for a project. after providing services for this company for 2 weeks they changed their mind about doing the project and since the project wasn't completed they were not going to pay me "x" dollars. isn't this kind of like hiring someone to put in a pool at your house and then you change your mind after they have already dug the hole and then say "the pool isn't completed" so we aren't going to pay you?
What can I deduct as a part-time independent contractor? I worked from May to September as an independent contractor. This work was supplemental to my full time job and only required about 10 hours or less a week. I made about $1800 and received a 1099-misc. Can I make any deductions? Such as half the cost of my phone and internet connection (both required for the work) during this period? From what I've read, I can't deduct any workspace expenses because I use my workspace for so many different things. But what about these extra expenses? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
tax write offs for an independent contractor? I work 2 jobs as an idependent contractor. I deliver papers during the early morning hours and i roof/siding during the day. I was just wondering what type of tax write offs i could us for these jobs? i know i use alot of mileage and fuel when im working. just wondering what i could use. Thanks!
Am I considered an independent contractor or an employee? Ok I have a new question for ya'll. I am considering the idea of hiring a attorney on a problem that I am having. The problem is that my boss calls us independent contractors, and pays non of our taxes. Instead we are suppossed to pay our taxes at the end of they year with a 1099 form and we dont get or use a w-2. The problem is that I think I am a employee and not an IC. He tells me when to be a work, where to do my work, how to do my work, and when to stop working. He provided a traing class for me and the others instructing us on how to do the job, the way he wanted it done. Now I thought that an IC gets to set their own schedule, doesnt work when they dont want to, and they are doing the job the way that they want to. He pays us with a buisness check, like cash, pays none of our taxes, such as social security, or federal, and he made us sign only one document at the time of hire. That was a document waiving our right to workmans comp. What do you all think? IC or employee in AZ?
As an independent contractor, what can I use as a deduction come taxes next year? Could I deduct my car payment? Can I deduct any services to my car, such as oil changes or new tires? I know I can definitely deduct the gas/mileage I use while on the job. Do I need to keep track of how many miles I drive each day for my job? Also, should I keep my receipts for gas? Can I deduct the food I buy while on the job? Please, if any of you are aware of even the smallest things that I should be keeping receipts for, please let me know. I am 21 years old, unmarried, and without children. I am working as an independent contractor, just started a few days ago. I will make about $12500 for the next 6 months remaining in 2006. How much should I set aside to pay taxes next year? I will be doing a lot of driving for the job, so do the deductions that come along with driving for the job make a huge difference? I am worried that I will be stuck with a rather large payment next year and just want to be adequately prepared. Thanks in advance for your help.
