Question for building contractors on how to resolve squeaky, popping wooden floors? I live in an 18 unit wood frame apt. bldg. with plywood between the two floors. I live in a garden apt. street level. When the people above me walk across the floor the floors pop and squeak and you can also hear a straining sound. There are no sub floors and no sound dampening in the floors, I believe there are no floor strappings either. The landlord put down a thick pad and thick carpet but I hear every footstep. Would liquid nails be an option and is it too late for installing a sub floor. Serious answers from builders would be much appreciated. We need to know how to resolve this problem. Also, can sound proofing be added into the walls. The owner needs to replace the interior wooden stairs as well as they transfer the sound of people running up and down the stairs into my apt. Thanks!
Question for building contractors? If you need to buy some lumber for a job, for a customer, lets say you need to buy a sheet of plywood and you only need to use about one third of it, and you put that cost on your final bill to the customer, who gets the remaining 2/3 of that plywood?

UK.Cameron Plan for growth to subsidise building contractors? How? Building houses does nothing other than buy jobs which do not help.If we ever see significant growth it will come from consumer demand and this can only happen by transferring money back to the people. The recent announcement of 15p per hour for the low paid shows the government will not do this.Instead of borrowing 7 billion to give away in aid this should have been given to the low paid to stimulate growth.
Who are building contractors? Describe the processes used to select building contractors for tendering and list the documents sent to the selected list for pricing. Sorry if you got me wrong. The question is based on when the client starts looking for building companies to undergo a building project till signing the end deal when both the clients and the contractors have made an agreement. What are does the client have to do to get this people and the stage by stage guide?

Contractors & Builders: How Do You Find Local Building Codes? I am considering building a 1 car attached garage myself in a year or two. I will hire a company to pour the foundation, and any electrical, but I want to do most of the framing/siding/finishing work myself to save money (as I do have some experience). I know you have to get building permits and so forth. My question is this: How do you find out the local building code rules for such a task? Thanks!

How can I get the word out to others about a bad building contractor ? This contractor has made a multitude of mistakes on my home. When I did a search on the internet, I could not find any information about him or his company. After signing a contract and 122k into the construction of my home, I find out how shady he is. I also found out that that 2 other families who are having homes built feel the same way that I do. If I had found anything questionable about this company prior to signing, I would have thought twice. Please help me help others. thanks
Is a building contractor responsible for repairing a sidewalk crack a month after closing? We purchased a new house in Pima County, near Tucson AZ, and at the time of the walk-through just prior to the closing, there was no crack in the sidewalk. The crack subsequently appeared and extended from a 3 inch crack becomming about a 2 foot crack in just a few days. The crack is less than 1/16 of an inch thick. The contractor says cracking in concrete is almost universal, and given the fact that there are no significant structural or safety issues, he will do no more than re-evaluate the situation in 6 months. The sidewalk was ugly and discolored, and the crack developed the day after the masonry subcontractor applied some kind of acid to the sidewalk. Would appreciate any advice from real estate attorneys or contractors who have knowledge about these matters.
During the process of building a second floor, a storm hit. Is this homeowners or contractors problem? The storm was unexpected and was severe. The roof was almost completed at the time. The 1st floor and the basement was completly flooded along with all there furnishings. I do not feel I am responsible for this act of God, but I really don't know the legalities. Sine then we have completed the roof but I still have yet to get paid for the job, and the homeowner doesn't answer my calls. I think he's going to try to take legal action against me, but does he have the right?
How does a building contractor layout a right triangle for the corner of a building? I know he puts a stake where a corner of the building will be, then he runs a chalk line where the front of the building will be and puts a stake on that line a specified distance. Then he runs another line a specified distance from the first stake where the side of the building will be. He temporarily puts a stake at that point. Then he runs a third line from the second stake and extends it to toward the stake marking the side of the building and adjusts that stake without changing the distance of that stake from the first stake until it meets the last line and that creates a right angle for the corner of the building. But I don't the dimensions he uses for the front and the side of the building..

How to find a good building contractor? I may need to find a contractor to replace some piping for my air conditioner that would require running new pipe through the floor or wall, How can I find a reliable contractor? Part of the probblem is that I think the problem originated with some careless work that was done previously. And, obviously they need to be familiar with, or be able to work closely with tha air conditioning company.
Building Contractors! Horse barn building? Hey i was wondering what an estimated price of building the structure of a 20 stall horse stable with a tack room might be. The stalls should be 10x10 and the tack room about 30x10. I know this is not an exact square footage but let me know what you think, give me an estimate or two and let me know why the price is what it is, etc. And also...indoor arenas?
What should I do about my contractor building next door and has torn down my fence? The contractor who built my home is now developing a complex , behind my home.,of 15-18 townhomes to sell. He went past the property line the city just surveyed , with a back hoe he knocked my fence down over a yr and half ago then nailed some boards across it in a different color and going the opposite way not even straight. He refuses to hear my repeated requests to fix it .There are 2-3 ft holes that drop into a 25 ft hole. I have a 6 yr old who cannot go outside due to this. The dirt slides everyday and we become closer to falling in.Then he vibrates the land and 5 other homes also with a steam roller and dump trucks --new cracks are developing all over the house. I need assistance. I don't know what legal steps to take and I was selling my home --wonder why there are no prospects. Contractor was informed of sale 1 yr ago. I need HELP I am sliding off the hill in Anchorage, Alaska.
Building permit needed and city statue says only contractors can do the work? I cannot do the work.? Last month I payed Home Dept $8300 for delivery, materials and labor for a laminate floor installation on about 1000 sq. ft. of my condo in Aventura,Fl. To begin, my condo association directs me to the city to get abuilding permit, right, I go to the City Hall and pick up an application.I need 2 copies of floor plans, a slab thickness survey and name, address ect.ect. and get it all notorized. Ok theres also space for the installation company's info, I call the installation Co. Home Depot has on my contract/invoise. I asked at the time of paying was there any additional costs? On the strength of HD, as a Co. I felt secure paying 100% up front to. This is how they sold it "we guarantee this, that ect. ect." well to make the point, I cannot get a permit now unless I pay $500 to the contractor, which aprox. $100 is for permit. $400 for thier signature and they are paid well for the work, which I already paid. I'd take my money back but I do need the floor and they'd charge 15% restock.
