can you get a government contractors job overseas if you have a criminal record? I was just wondering about getting government job overseas as a contractor? I have a misdemeanor, but no felonies from 8 years ago. I've heard an seen some contractors, that look like they may have have had a life, or been in trouble before as some of them say they have. There is a opening, but I was wondering should I even apply?
Who are the contractors that hire poeple to work at Six Flags? I used to work at Six Flags New England and was employed directly by the SF company. Before I let I never got to ask the question of who are the people that work at Six Flags but are hired by outside contractors and sent to the park to work as associates, ride attendants, food servers, etc. Any ideas would help. Thanks.
How to pay to contractors overseas? I need to make a payment from my business account to a contractor who is overseas. Can I pay to a foreign person and avoid the steps I need to take to set him up as a contractor? He has no connections to USA so I will not need to issue a 1099 for him, but my online business account would not let me make the payment without all the formalities that come with having contractors. Is it just my bank or it is a law?
How much does it cost contractors to build a typical two story townhouse duplex? To pay good contractors to do it I should say. Anybody have any examples? I am thinking of buying a junky 1 story duplex house that's close to a school to tear it down and build this type of structure and sell both units. Or maybe sell one and rent the other. Portland, OR I wouldn't do it right away. I'm just thinking about the process. Thanks.
How can I keep independent contractors from stealing my customers in California? I have a small IT business in California and I need to hire independent contractors from time to time. Recently, one of the people I hired for a job went to my customer and told them he would do the same work I do for them, except he would do it cheaper. I've heard that non-compete agreements are illegal in California, so how am I supposed to protect my business?
Are contractors taking away good people from the military? I've read that I can make more than double working for say black water than for the US military plus I wouldn't have the same restrictions as in the military. Now my heart is dead set for the air force and the navy second. But my question is, is are the contractors a threat to taking the best and brightest away from our military?
How and Where I can find contractors and jobs in Afghanistan and Gulf area? Using Internet you run into many irrelevant sites or places looking to charge you something. It seems like there should be a way of getting the list of Contractors working for US, Nato working overseas, so I can go to them with applications for jobs. I am fluent in English, Farsi, Dari, and a little bit of Turkish spoken in Afghanistan, Iran and the former Soviet Republics that are now independent.
How do I claim independent contractors? I own an agency and I get gigs for independent contractors. Clients would pay the agency using my Tax ID and I would then pay out the independent contractor. Keep in mind I get a percentage amount of the gig that I get for the independent contractor. How would I claim the independent contractor on my income taxes because our clients send a 1099 to my Tax ID and not the independent contractor? Would the independent contractor be an expense for my business or how would I claim them?
How do you feel about the contractors in Afghanistan paying bribes to the Taliban? It was on the TV news a few weeks ago that about 20% of the money that the construction contractors get, is paid to the enemy Taliban as bribes to leave them alone. Is not this like we are paying both sides to keep the war going? USA military are fighting people who are being supplied in part by USA civilian contractors. Is not this crazy? In WW2, were Germany and Japan funded by the Allies? I think not.
How do you get contractors to actually respond to you? We have been trying to get some work done at our house and have found that they don't return your calls, won't give you a bid (for the single one who actually showed up) and this has been from attempting to contact multiple contractors, not just a single unreliable one. What can we do to find a reliable contractor for the job we need done?
builders and contractors, what do you look for in lighting discount? I am the general manager of a lighting showroom. I'm looking to gain more business by offering something GREAT for home builders and contractors. If you are in this field, what do you generally expect or wish you could gain from this sort of partnership? Commission for referrals? Discounts? Free lighting design?
Contractors: Is there a reason why a contractor will promise a job done by a date and fail? I've heard horror stories about contractors promising to do a job (i.e. remodel a kitchen or a bathroom or a deck, an extra room addition) by a certain time and at a fixed price. But as time goes by, they need more money to finish a job. Usually, the home owner goes broke and/or job never finished. My parents remolded their entire home. The work was promised to be finished w/in 6 month. It's been a year and the house is still uninhabitable. We have a contract and everything has been paid for as scheduled. We have a lawyer now. But what can cause an established contracting company to fail on their word/contract? Is there a legitimate reason?
Are there any contractors that build underground homes in western PA? I live in western PA, and am interestedin building an underground home, but cannot find anyone local that does this. It is in zipcode 15856. Does anyone know of any underground home forums, or does anyone know any contractors in this area that have experience with underground homes? I would also be interested in hearing from people that actually live in, or have built underground homes.
Do you need a contractors license to start a window company in California? Ok so, my family owns window companies in Illinois. Window replacement, siding, roofs, doors, etc. Basically they have relationships with factories that they buy their products from and have 2 teams of installers who actuallly install the products. I live in southern california and wanted to open a division of the family business here. I have been doing a little research and I am finding that most window company owners have contractors license. Is this required? Is there a way around it if my installers are licensed? Anyone with knowledge in this area would be appreciated thanks! Just to clarify my question: Does the retail portion of sales need a contractors license? OBVIOUSLY the actual installers doing the work would be licensed.
Is it common for contractors to tear up every street in town? I live in a town of about 1500 people. We are having our streets resurfaced and the people doing it have virtually every single street in town torn up. Is this the way it is usually done? It would make more sense to me to do sections instead to make getting around easier. Any contractors out there have some input?
How to deal with contractors? Can you give me practical tips on selecting and dealing with contractors: carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.? This is for house renovations, not new construction.
Can independent contractors be forced to work at a specific place? The company I work for has said that new laws have passed for independent contractors and that's why they can force us to go to the office to work and tell us when our work day starts and ends. Does this law actually exist? Is there anything that exists that says independent contractors can be forced to work at a specific place and time when such things were not covered in the contract I signed?
What would you do about contractors installing new travertine tile uneven? Contractors installed new travertine tile in our ultra small powder room. I was appalled to find them stepping all over the tile. In fact, they even put in the toilet and vanity within hours of installing tile. Now just days later some tiles are somewhat uneven. There are also some grey streaks in the grout where you can see the cement inset bled through. What would you do? The entire bathroom is now in place. I'd hate to tear it up again, but maybe that's the only choice?
How do I get insurance for independent contractors in Columbus, Ohio? I have a home care agency in Columbus Ohio and I need info on how the contractors get bonding and workers comp or even liability. I was told they can get bonding downtown somewhere but I dont know where. Also I was told they can sign a form denying wanting workers comp coverage but I'm not sure if thats true. Any help would be nice.
What is the most efficient way to research becoming a subcontractor to major federal contractors? As a former procurment analyst for Dept. of Navy I dealt with many major Dept. of Defense contractors. Unfortunately it has been sometime since I was in that arena. I have been afforded the opportunity to work with a company that is interested in becoming a subcontractor and I believe that their products would prove invaluable to a prime. Any COs out there or staff that can share your wisdom, expertise, advise or all three, please advise. Know you are bound by Conflict of Interest, etc., so am only asking hypothetically where to begin. Thanks, Former Procurment Analyst

With what contractors do I have the best chance of getting hired for an operators union apprenticeship? I live in Southeast Wisconsin (Oshkosh, Appleton, Green Bay area) and have a current letter of eligibilty from Local 139 operators union. This means that as soon as a contractor hires me on, I'm officially an operators apprentice and am identured into the apprenticeship program. I received a list of contractors with my letter of eligibility to solicit work, but with no luck, yet. I've applied with a lot of contractors leaving my resume, copy of letter of eligibility and cover letter. The most common response to my inquiry of work is that they are not accepting apprenticeships for operators (they are full). I was wondering if anyone knew of a good company within reasonable travel distance (no more than an hour) from my home that is currently accepting apprenticeships for union operators. Any help, advice, or references would be greatly appreciated. I'd also like to add that I grew up operating heavy equipment, my father was an operating engineer, so I have experience.
Any tips on what to look out for with contractors? I am doing a $250K addition that involves a new kitchen. Any tips on what to look out for with contractors? Specifically, I want to know what I should look for when selecting a contractor or special tips I should do when putting the contract together so I don't get burned.

What type of Insurance do I need if I have a business that has independent contractors? I have a business that is a service bureau (printed circuit board design) and I have independent contractors. I need to get insurance so that when they go to a customer site they are covered and don't sue the customer in case of an accident or something. What type of insurance do I need, where can I get it, and how much will it cost? Thanks for your help in advance!

Now we need to find more dealers for our products. The obvious people that would be interested in being our products are small business owners and contractors. Can my independent contractors create bills for which my company has to pay? I have a real estate company with my agents as independent contractors and we recieved a collection notice from an advertiser for an over due bill. The bill is in my company's name but the agent was the one that purchased the advertising. So my question is can the advertisement company stick me with the bill that my independent agent ordered? Thanks!
How do foreign contractors working in America feel about being far from home? I see many very young Indians (who I assume are contractors working in America) and I always wonder...What would it feel like to be so young and so far away from home? Do you like America? Do you wish you could go home? What does it feel like to be so far from home working in America? Do you like America and Americans?
When did The United States start paying contractors to do the work the US once did? We are losing our @ss in Iraq by paying contractors like Haliburton and Black Water Billions of dollars in lucrative contracts. Did we ever use contractors in Viet Nam or WWII? Why isn't the government doing these jobs itself and creating Jobs? We are wasting Billions a month on services that should cost Millions or less. We should seriously look at why we decided to outsource our government to these leeches who are bleeding us dry. Believe me, I know why we selected these companies, but why use them at all. I don't think we used them before.
