Where can I obtain a list of licensed general contractors or active commercial construction sites in my area? I am wanting to market a service to general contractors in a relatively small city in the midwestern United States. There is a lot of commercial construction going on around here including hotels, stores, etc. A list of licensed general contractors would be valuable but if there was someway to find out which general contractors are actively involved in commercial construction perhaps through permits they pulled or registrations with the city or county, that would probably be more valuable. I'm not sure where to begin though. Anyone?

Attention general contractors: how much would it cost to tear down a wall? How much would it cost to tear down a wall which was put up in a garage to partition a portion into a little office? It's a one-car garage, approximate size of wall is 11 lineal feet by 8 foot high. It was done by a builder so is most likely to code. It has a door as well to permit access to the entire garage. I'm just looking for a cost range to raze it and remove the debris.
Do general contractors charge by the hour or by the job? The reason I am asking is because I am being charged 55/hr for him to knock down a load bearing wall (8 ft span), and place a beam at the top (below the joists), there is no attic work involved. The total cost for this job is estimated $2,875 which he states I won't find a better price anywhere else. Is this true?
Do Insurance Adjusters and General Contractors work hand in hand? Hello, I have a bedroom that needs repair from an accidental fire. I was curious to know if when I talk with my insurance company's adjuster and he assesses the damage, are they usually hooked in with a specific contracting company? What I mean is, do the contractor & adjuster have an agreement to where the adjuster recommends the customer (me) to a specific contracting company in return for some of the profit (commission)? Is this even legal? Please, answers based only on fact and not ideas or opinions. Thank you.
My husband owns a General Partnership, they are Inependent contractors, what is the best way of paying partners My husband has just started a General Partnership. It is a Timber falling business. The partners are Independent Contractors. We want each of them to get paid for what they earn. Example:Contract is $295.00 a day for a 6 hr day of cutting timber. So if one partner puts in 10 days and the other partner puts in 9 days for one pay period, that is a check to our company for $5605.00. So, how we would want it to go is that the partner that put in 10 days gets $2950.00 before witholdings and the partner that put in 9 days gets $2655.00 before witholdings. The partnership ownership is 50% for each of the partners. Does this mean that out of each check recieved for the business we have to split it 50% to each partner, even if one partner didnt work during that pay period? Or can we do it like we would like explained above?

Cost of a General Contractors License/Business Insurance? Over the last couple of years, I have turned a small handyman operation into a slightly larger business doing home remodeling. The projects I am now contracting for will necessitate hiring a few employees on an ongoing basis, and I am certain that I will need to be licensed to engage in most of the tasks I will be doing, as well as obtaining insurance. Does anyone have any idea how much money I will be looking at in order to legitamize my business, and what exactly will I need to acquire? Thanks in advance for your help! My business is located in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area.
Should I hire a general contractor for my second flip? On my first flip my general contractor was a disaster. It seems to me that there whole job is hiring sub contractors and charging me for making the call. I have the time to be at the job to make sure things are being done. I want to make this my career. Should i jump in, or should I have a little more experiance?
