An unlicensed Paving contractor has disappeared with $12,000 of my money. Any ideas on how to locate him? Only contact was via Mob #. No work performed and even Consumer Affairs have lost him as well. I need some advise on who I can list a mis-per with and help me find this guy - even if interstate.
I am trying to find a business address of a paving contractor who scammed us out of $6,800.00. I have tel. #? I have the name and 888 telephone #, I have made inquiries in the State of Floridas Business Regulations, they have no record of the contractor listed. I wonder if some one can give me directions on how to do a reverse telephone number search.
Unused hot asphalt paving mix- where does it go? My paving contractor ordered too much mix for resurfacing the driveway. What usually happens to extra hot mix?
Driveway in Block Paving, What foundations should there be ? I am looking to have my front garden block paved to provide off street parking. I am intending to get a contractor in for this. The block paving needs to support a car. What should the contractor be doing for the foundation ?
How can I estimate what a driveway paving project will cost? I need my existing driveway ripped out and a new base and asphalt put in. My driveway is 68 feet by 21 feet and have no way to tell if the contractors are giving me fair estimates.
Question about an expired paving contractor's license (class 032) in California? My husband had a paving contractor's license 22 years ago in CA, and I just looked it up on the CSLB website and it shows expired in 1996. My husband is disable but I'd like to activate that license again since I know the business very well, and helped him start and manage the business for many years. He is mentally capable of giving estimates, he just can't physically be involved in the work part of it. Is this possible to do? What would my husband have to do to make his license active again. Would he have to take the test over again? Would he have to "replace the qualifying individual?" Agreed Soccerref, but is it too late to make his license active again, or would he have to get a new contractors license?
Cost for paving an apron for my driveway? Any paving contractors out there? I filled my driveway with crushed rock, but can't extend the rock to the road cause the town snow plow will dig it up. So I need a paved apron that extends from the edge of the road into my driveway about 3 or 4 feet. The driveway is about 25 feet wide. (I checked - the town refuses to do it - claiming they don't have the money.) What is a typical cost to have a paving company create a driveway apron? And wonder if there is a cheaper and better alternative, such as concrete?
Where can i take classes to become a pavor in New York? i want to become a paving contractor in a few years, but i want to take a few courses before i take that big step. Does anyone know where i can take classes on how to pave roads and lay bricks and stuff?
Our new asphalt paving runs right up against our house wall. Suggestions to prevent this earth-wood contact? We live in a forest and for 10 years made do with a dusty dirt driveway until last week when we hired a paver. The contractor paved right up to our garage door opening and all along the edge of the house on that side, covering up the bottom inch of about 20 feet of the 4' X 8' sheets of doug fir siding. I know this is bad because it provides a hidden entrance point for wood-eating bugs to get up into the framing and start munching on our house. I can't pry the plywood out from under the asphalt, so what can we do to eliminate this problem of the paving coming up too high? This forest is filled with hungry termites and wood borers that would love to start feasting on our home!
Paving Question? In PA i had recently had my driveway paved by a contractor back in april. I have recently noticed that there is grass and weeds growing up from the asphalt. I have called the contractor back three times and just keep on getting blown off just simply to fix it. What legal action can i take?
Need help from someone in asphalt paving business!!? What is the going rate per square foot ( or square yard) for sealing a newly paved asphalt driveway (3,409 sq. ft)? Which sounds correct? $l.50 per sq. ft. or $l.50 per sq. yard? Would you ever charge by the number of gallons of sealer used? I think I am getting a bad deal from a local contractor. HELP!
My neibhour paved his driveway.Te contractor destroyed my fence and 80 year old grape vines. What can I do? His land is only 9 @1/2 feet wide. He has moved 4-6 inches on my property with the pavement.
Does mudjacking concrete work, or is it more cost effective to re-pave? I have some slopped concrete that I would one day like to get fixed. I'm wondering if mudjacking works, or if I'd be better off just re-paving the concrete instead. One contractor told me that mud jacking is very expensive and just a short-term fix.
Asphalt Driveway Paving? I'm getting quotes on paving my driveway. It's almost 400' long and currently stone. Questions: 1) Should I get 1/3 of it paved or pave the whole length of the driveway? What is better from a real estate value perspective? 2) One of the contractors quotes 2" of asphalt and the others quoted 3". Does it matter much? I live in a cold climate with lots of snow... Thanks.
thickness of flag/block paving for driveway? Hi. I am getting a firm to lay a new back yard for me. I will occassionally park my car there. I dont really like the block paving designs i've seen and prefer the riven paving stones. However, by contractor tells me that they are not thick enough (30mm or so) to support a vehicle and he is recommending a minimum of 50mm, ideally 60mm. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Is the difference between 30 and 50 mm really that important?!
Paving driveway? Thanks for the dumb answers about contractors and the Yellow pages. The permit is for the driveway to be paved. It can not be done until NDOT corrects the shoulder of the road. Don't bother answering this as I have had enough dumb answers
How much does it cost to pave my driveway? Moving to Pierz, Mn in July 2012. My new house doesn't have a driveway. We have to park on the street. There is a spot in the front, to the left to pave a small driveway. Enough to fit my 2005 dodge grand caravan. And maybe another car next to it. I would like asphalt. I have seen many contractors on the internet that do this type of work. But of course no prices. Anyone know what they are charging these days for this type of job?

Loose laid paving slabs in driveway.? I have just had some paving slabs laid in my driveway. The contractor told me it was alright to lay them loose without any mortar, even though it is used for vehicles. Is this right? I have since read that insects love to nest under loose laid slabs, particularly ants. Can anyone tell me if they have found this to be the case as I am already plagued by ants and large spiders. Also if this is the case are there any suggestions as to what I can do to remedy this? Thank you
Who is responsible for a contractor's damage to property? I recently hired a contractor to trim tree branches and do general shrubbery clean up. When I came home, he had gone and there were deep ruts in the lawn caused by his heavy equipment (about 8 inches (20 cm) wide, 6 inches (15 cm) deep and 20 feet (7 meters) long. If that weren't bad enough, his truck also cracked the blacktop in my driveway. I call him and expressed my concern. He said he can't be held responsible for how soft the ground is or the quality of paving in my driveway. I wanted to know how I should proceed with this (i.e. make him repair the damage, sue him, repair the damage out of my own pocket, forget it, etc.). Thanks.
Why do I have a big oil spot on my recently paved driveway? I had my driveway paved with blacktop. A few weeks later a big circle of oil is in the center. I never park my car in the driveway for any length of time. This oil seems to be seeping up every day it is warm. I cannot get ahold of the contractor. Anyone know why this would happen?
I'm a contractor and looking for a construction job on long island,NY .How can I start seeking for local jobs? I have a construction business licensed and insured. I do masonry, demolation, concrete, brick paving, dry wall, ceiling tile and ect.
Should I wait they sue me or should I call the mover to claim my damage? If you read my other questions, you may know that the mover made damage on my driveway and lawn.Since they used tow truck to lift their mover truck, it made damage to the movers truck. They want to sue me for waiting time $160/hour by 3 hours wages plus also damage $ of truck that towing made. What sould I do? I called few paving contractors, repair and patch, cost $2000. Should I call the mover to claim my damage or wait for them to sue me to conter sue them?
I want to put in a driveway - need some suggestions!? The driveway I want to put in is 10' wide and 85' long. I'm thinking hot-mix over rock-n-chip would be a lot cheaper than concrete, and we have mild winters here in Charleston, SC, so I'm not worried about freeze damage. Can someone make a suggestion about the cheapest method, and maybe give me an idea of what a paving contractor might charge? I do a lot of jobs around the house, but don't have anywhere near the resources to do this myself. Thanks! Eric.
UK consumer advice about Cement truck damaging paving slabs on public footpath.? I need some UK consumer advice for a situation that I don't know what to do. Last year, under the supervision of a building contractor, some ready mixed concrete was delivered to my premises. The cement truck left the public road to come on my property. As a result three or four paving slabs on the public footpath, between the public road and my property, were broken due to the weight of the cement truck. The building contractor told me about this damage and said that he did not see the damages disclaimer displayed on the cement truck until it was on actually my property. After the cement was actually delivered the building contractor signed the paper receipt for it that means he accepted the terms of the delivery which includes the disclaimer for any damages. The disclaimer basically says that any damage to private property of anything else thereof is the responsiblity of the undersigned. In this case would be the building contractor. Where I am know is that I have received a letter from the Cement company. The letter says that they have received an invoice from council for repairing the broken paving slabs. The total cost is £96.37. The letter mentions the disclaimer for damages, the signed receipt and that they were invited to leave the public highway. The Cement company want either myself or my building contractor to forward a cheque to cover the cost of the invoice from the council. What shall I do?
Was it wrong to use stonedust mixed with gravel in the bases for my in-progress flagstone and brick patios? I have two patio now under construction in my backyard, in holes I dug mostly myself to a depth of from 10 to 18 inches. One, to be covered using flagstone, is 500 sq. ft, while the circular one, to be paved with brick, is of 14 ft diameter. The contractor indicated he would lay grade "B" gravel underneath and grade "A" 3/4" stone in the next layer, both on top of geotextile, and compact every 2 inches. He did lay the geotextile, but put down a combination of what looks more like stonedust mixed with gravel,. He didn't even try to compact until the end. As we understand it, the will cause water to accumulate like a sponge. We live in Ottawa, Canada, where there is lots of freezing and unfreezing due to seasonal changes, and you can imagine what problems with the base that might cause. Note that the holes holding the base stone do not drain water well anyways, due to clay bottoms. Nevertheless, is there a justification for what has been put down as a base?
What are the standards for Asphalt Paving? What are the standards for residential driveway ?It is an old subdivision (30+yo) removing old asphalt reviled existing gravel.Contractor add a little bit more (what is a measure by which its judged if it is enough of it? What size of stones should it be?) Mine is 3/4-1" and it has pieces of asphalt and broken Ceramic dishes in between (is it recycled? is it OK? What is the price difference between firs quality and second?) How do I judge quality of asphalt? I've been told : smooth looking asphalt is less durable. Patches of a larger stones in it provide strength and extended life of a driveway(is it true?) What is the minimal time required for compacting gravel before paving? What is the lowest acceptable temperature outside allowed to lay asphalt? Should I waite for spring ?

What hell is wrong with the republican party? Midterm elections loomed large as the Senate derailed a campaign-finance bill this year on straight party lines. Changing the rules of the political game is always a heavy lift on Capitol Hill, but especially in a highly volatile election season that could flip control of the Congress. Not even a controversial Supreme Court ruling earlier this term, which paved the way for unlimited corporate or union spending in ads for or against a candidate, could bring a measure of consensus to the Senate. The proposed law would have required that chief executives appear at the end of political ads, claiming responsibility for the material. The law also would have banned foreign corporations or governments, large government contractors, and federal bailout recipients from spending money in US elections. “It is incredible that we now have to struggle to find a supermajority – 60 senators – even just to debate a bill whose principles both parties once supported and that 9 in 10 Americans want us to pass,” said Senate majority leader Harry Reid during Tuesday afternoon’s floor debate. The measure failed 57 to 41 – essentially falling one vote short of 60 given that Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I) of Connecticut, a supporter, was absent and Senator Reid switched his vote to no to keep the option of bringing it back at a later date. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2010/0727/Senate-derails-campaign-finance-bill-ahead-of-2010-elections

Does Satan hire government workers to pave the road to hell with good intentions? Or does he get a private contractor to pave it right the first time?
I'm looking for help with an estimate I received for a pavement project for a patio. Am I getting a good deal! I have a 540 sq. foot area behind my business. Right now it is paved with asphalt that is very uneven. So - the contractor I spoke to is going to use Pavers, which will even out the surface. The finish will be a running bond of concrete grey, with a heritage buff border. The supplies are about $1,200, and they have quoted me a labor cost of $4.50. So - it will be about a $3,600 project. Does this sound fair to those of you who know of such projects? A little more than I thought it'd be!
Can a contractor change a written agree without asking the customer? We went over thoroughly with a paving contractor what we want and can afford. The contract specifically states what we agreed to have done and pay for. The morning the contractor's employees arrived, we walked through the enitre agreement again. He showed us where the tar will end and only millet be used for the actual driveway. Half way through the day, they were still doing what the written contract clearly shows. One employee showed me where the tar will be put and end as I was walking to my car to leave for work. Three hours later I recieved a phone call from my son stating the owner came to the house when it was done. He demanded twice the sum from my daughter-in-law. Using intimidation she demanded she pay $8000.00 instead of the agreed $4200.00 (both sums were in addition to the $800 put down.). When my daugher-in-law refused to write a new check for the amount he wanted, he demanded she sign an agreement to make monthly payments for the additional amount. My daughter-in-law put my son on the phone and the contractor threatened to come back and tear up the drive way. We are afraid he is going to make it unable and harmful to our tires. We had down a tarred skirt leading into the road. and stone base. The contractor obviously told his workers to pave the entire driveway after we left and now wants is to pay for it or he is going to ruin our property. He did take the $4200 agreed on and cased it. What can we do to make sure he does not ruin our drive way for spite?
A contractor bids on three different projects: a,b,c. What is the probability... (Click for details)? The probability of securing the contract for project B is twice as much as securing project a and his chance of securing the congract for project c are three times higher than securing the congract for project b. The porbbaility thathe will secure the congracts for all three projects is 0.012. assuming that wimming the contract for any of the three projects are independent events; if a random variable X is defined to count the number of contracts won, a) how many porjects can the paving contractor expect to win? b) what is the standard deviation of the random variable x

Price for Asphalt in PA? My Quote seems very high.? I am trying to get my driveway done. It is currently stone and according to recent quotes its roughly around 228 square yards which is around 684 square feet. Now I've had two people come out and give me a quote and both of these companies came to price around $8,000. Thats almost $12.5 per square foot. Does this make sense or is my Math off??? Please help and thanks in advance. Here is what one company says it is doing: 1. Excavate the entire area to proper elevation and sufficient depth (seems all pretty even to me) 2. Place a base consisting of 6" of #2A aggregate 3. Roll to compact using a vibratory roller to within 3 1/2" of finish grade 4. Place sufficient ID-2 binder asphalt to provide a 2" thickness after compaction by rolling 5. Place sufficient ID-2 top asphalt to provide a 1 1/2" wearing surface after compaction by rolling 6. Seal all adjoining asphalt edges with liquid asphalt covered with #1A aggregate 7. The paving contractor agrees to remove any debris
Do politicians understand the difference in the "rich" and "super rich" and paying taxes? o.k. obama is raising taxes on those those making between $250,000 and $600,000 who are restaurant owners, home builders, labor contactors, architects, surgeons, engineers, hospital executives, college administrators, Ivy-League law professors, and many dentists. These households are wealthy, yes; but they don’t own or even fly on $50 million private jets or host private Super Bowl parties. Their income is all reported, and with such good salaries come high insurance and, in the case of business, constant reinvestment and expensive inventories. They are not greedy, but the bulwark of the United States’ productive classes who in aggregate pay over 40% of the collective income taxes, and provide most of the jobs in the country. BUT, the "rich" are NOT in any way synonymous with the super-rich who voted overwhelmingly in obama's favor precisely because their riches gave them immunity from high taxes, and in many cases they were far removed from the everyday risk and worry of owning a hardware store or trying to keep together a family-owned construction firm. George Clooney is a world away from a paving contractor, just as making $400,000 a year on call 24/7 is not quite making $40 million investing or paying $2 million for a cameo http://pajamasmedia.com/victordavishanson/the-great-divider/2/ So please no more intellectual dishonesty, Mr. President. Those in great numbers who will pay your higher taxes are not really the rarer Warren Buffets, Bill Gateses, Diane Feinsteins, Teresa Heinz Kerrys, Sean Penns, George Soroses, Oprah Winfreys, or Tiger Woodses, whose mega-wealth really does result in private jet rides, and yet exempts them from worries that increased taxes might wreck their small businesses.
Am I obligated to pay "hidden" costs from a contracting job? A local paving contractor ran an ad in the paper that he would lay 1000 sq ft of asphalt for $1000. Since my driveway is 100 x 10 ft, this sounded like a good deal. However, when he presented me with the bill, it was for $1600. When I pointed out his ad indicated the cost would be $1000, he responded that was only the price of laying the asphalt. It didn't include tearing up and disposing of the old driveway or grading the area. It did not say in the ad that removal of the existing driveway or grading would be extra. Do I have to pay the extra $600?
I need good slogan for my general contractor business? we do grading, excavating, undderground utilities and paving
need a contractor for filling in a pool area and finish off with thin pave rs.? This is for Bradenton, Fl. Remove broken plastic pool with sheet steel sides 1/2 in ground. Pool is surrounded with thin pavers. Fill in pool area and add new pavers to old pavers.
Neighbors Parking in my Driveway? I live in a house that has a house beside us and the person who lived here before me paved the entire area between the two houses, now 95% of the paved area is our land and is our driveway that we park in. My neighbor always has people coming over and parking in our driveway and she doesn't say anything about it. Today my husband is at work and she had some contractors show up and they parked in the driveway, she showed up to let them in and didn't tell them to move their car. Is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening? We constantly have to tell her but she doesn't seem to care. UGH!!!

If state Mix asphault is ok for a home driveway? I can save about 20% the cost of the job to pave my driveway if instead of a level of base coat and then a level of topcoat, the contractor puts a slightly deeper layer of base coat down and then something he called State Mix (hot asphalt) like what is used to pave state roads. Is this ok or should I pay the extra for the Top Coat
I am having my front garden block paved,? I am about to have my front garden block paved [80 sq mtr] is it the responsibility of the contractor to lay permeable block paving as the law changed oct08
A multiple-choice 8th grade math question? please help? For small paving jobs, a contractor uses a roller pushed by a worker. the radius of the cylinder is 8 in and the height is 30 in To the nearest square inch, what is the area of pavement with which the surface of the roller will come into contact in one complete rotation? A 753 in.² B 1,507 in.² C 1,708 in.² D 1,909 in. please explain becuase i got confused by the rotation thingy... and couldn't find the answer.
I need help with a rational expressions word problem. Here it is:? In checking records a contractor finds that crew A can pave a certain length of highway in 9 hours. Crew B can do the same job in12 hours. How long would it take if both crews worked together? Please show the steps to solve this problem and thank you very much.
We signed a contract and paid in full. The contractor did more work and is demanding more money. Is this legal? My son and his wife (and new baby) are struggling to afford their new home. Both pairs of in-laws have paid for much of this so that our children can have a good life together. A paving company is using teamster style pressure to get more money out of my son and his wife. 1) We thought we got three estimates, it turns out one man owns all three companies that came to give us estimates. 2) We stated what we could afford and the work is clearly written on the contratc. 3) We were told there is a 2 year warrentee and were not told it was null upon completion. I read the fine print on the back of a yellow copy afterwards, that states the 2 year warrentee is void if the sides of the paved or sealed driveway are not framed with packed dirt. 4) The day of the work, the manager and I walked though what was to be done and he even stated, "its all in the contract, don't worry about it." 5) My son and his wife were at work. I had to leave also and while I was done, they did extra work, not in the contract and certainly not worth $2000.00. The owner (a big 6'3, 300 pound man) came back and scared my daughter in law (115 pound 5'2" female) who was alone with the baby. He demanded a check and then stated she would take payments over 6 months and insisted she sign a paper to agree to make payments. She called my son and closed the door, the owner has been calling him constantly since then whining that "he cannot sleep at nigtht because I lost $2000.00 on this job!" and is threatening to come back with his equipment to take up the driveway. We paid him $6300.00 in full for a driveway and the fine print on the back also states that commercial equipment cannot be driven on finished product or the warrentee is void. The extra work is that the millets were not to be seal between the skirt and the parking area that is 8' x 30'. He is threatening my son and his wife and they are scared for the wife and child to be alone during the day while my son is teaching school. I live far away and cannot stay constantly, thought I did stay for the week to take on the brunt of these assualts. I called the state and all they offered is to sent us a complaint form, How can I put an end to this matter. Just because my son bought a new home, contractors cannot come in and do whatever they want and demand unreasonable sums of money. I feel like this is a mafia style act that is requiring us to pay money to a bully just because he feels entitled and my son appears to be able to come up with the money if needed.
What amount, if any, should an almost victim pay someone who saved him from foolishly paying for a scam? A long time boarder (in his early sixties) with a 76 year old elderly gentleman at his residence learned his landlord had just signed a $19,000 dollar contract for his home driveway with an asphalt contractor who had just appeared from nowhere saying he had an oversupply of asphalt from another job he had just finished and would begin paving this driveway at a highly reduced rate if he would just allow him to start immediately with the surplus from the other finished job and give him a $7,000 check. Hearing the price and the story shortly afterwards, and due to the fact it was after business hours on a Friday , the boarder immediately went to his computer and searched for a National Asphalt Contractor's Trade Assoc. website. Sure enough he found a warning on the home page for customers to beware of contractors appearing unexpectedly saying they had a surplus from another job that they would sell cheap...it's a scam approach. The boarder then printed out the warning and took it to the landlord who, when uncomfortable concern had initially been expressed by the boarder about the contractor's price and his approach tactics, replied assuredly he'd assessed the cost of an asphalt driveway some time before and that he thought the price was OK. (He admitted later that he had not really done this) He also said that he had already signed the contract and that it was too late to do anything. To make a long story short(er), the boarder had to wait until the following Monday (contractor appeared and started the job on a late Friday...that's part of the scam strategy) to contact the State's Attorney General's office. When the contractor returned to finish the job late Monday morning the boarder confronted him, took his vehicle license number and told him he would be contacted by an inspector (name given to him). The contractor was obviously shaken and asked the boarder what he would have to do to not have to talk to that inspector. After we all, landlord included, sat down inside the home office to discuss my suggestion of doing the whole job at $1.00 per sq./ft. the phone rang. It was the inspector wanting to first speak with the home owner, and then he asked to talk to the contractor. When the inspector from the AG's Consumer Protection Office had finished talking to this contractor (and with whom he had confronted on occasions prior to this incident), the contractor agreed to the following: 1. Repave the already paved portion of the driveway and finish the rest at a depth of 3" (instead of the 1-2 inches he had started with). 2. He would not only tear up the previous contract, but write another at a charge of only $1.00 per sq/ft of surface area for the entire job (the boarder recommended figure) 3. After measuring for the total job area and having us agree to that assessment, he would return the difference in cash between that job cost and the $7,000 the customer had previously paid him. 4. He would make sure the customer was completely satisfied in every way before leaving and after-wards. Thanks to the intervention of his long-time boarder (and, yes, with the clout of the AG's office) this elderly gentleman had essentially recovered approximately $14,400 which he would have foolishly overspent on his driveway, and even ended up with a better quality (thicker) driveway to boot. [The initial contract called for $19,000, a $12,000 final payment when the job was done, after an initial $7,000 payment to begin. The contractor instead refunded approx $2,400 in cash when the new job cost was calculated to be approx. $4,600] How much, if anything at all, do you think would have been fair for the elderly man to offer his boarder as a reward or compensation for having intervened, despite his initial dis-concern, and who's efforts had saved him $14,400 from being foolishly wasted...not to mention also getting the better quality, thicker driveway Just so you'll know, yes, I'm the boarder and the elderly gentleman never offered a penny. Comments about this elderly gentleman's behavior aren't necessary or sought by me, but I would like several comments on what people of different backgrounds think would have been a fair monetary tribute to offer me as a gesture of appreciation, or whether you don't think a monetary offer/reward was necessary or appropriate.
Tough times, I had some tough times recently and I put the blame squarely on my mom, should I say sorry? Okay, a little background. And it is long... it is about me being the let down child and me being forced to marry within my race and where I am now with my relationship with my parents (mom in particular) My mom is a traditional mom with very traditional values, she is also the lady with the pants in the house, so to speak. My dad was the breadwinner but he thought my mom walked on water. Sure they had their disagreements but at the end of the day, my mom was always in the right. So, my entire life, I had to live in the shadow of my overachieving brothers -- my older brother is one of the youngest ever for his profession and is a prolific writer, lecturer and someone everyone in his profession at least knows or respects. My younger brother, is the golden child who has had it easy in life, he's tall, athletic, good looking and a surgeon to boot. He is also well respected in his profession and is paving great paths for his career. Me, the sister -- who is the middle child -- who basically has been told hey you can do whatever you want but I don't think you will succeed. Oh, your brothers are going to ivy league schools -- doctor, lawyer, etc...but you can do something, you are smart, we just know you are not as bright as your brothers. I went to a good university -- very well respected -- and graduating from this school, people will assume you are smart. And I am told I am smart, etc. But I don't care, you aren't smart until you apply it. So here's my gripe.. you can date but it must be within your own race. I dated my college sweetheart for my entire junior and senior year and afterwards he is to go to a major university for his Masters on a full ride, I tell my parents this guy is a keeper. He is smart, he has great ambition and he is very dedicated to me. My mom won't even let me bring him home or even try to meet this boyfriend of mine. Long story short, I decide to break it off because I chose family over my bf. Well, later on, I finally date someone in my race and I end up marrying him ... he ends up cheating and leaving me with a baby and a toddler. He leaves the country and I can't find him, he doesn't do a thing for the kids and basically tries to hide his earnings so he doesn't have to pay much at all. I lost it with my mom today because I am going through a major renovation in my house and this was something my parents did help me with because I do need help with my kids so I can try to do well at my job. (but now the economy isn't so good and me being laid off is actuallly a big, big possibility) But the truth is, boss of the last year, is not a huge fan of me since I am a clear threat to her. So, I am on her short list I am positive. So, I have the stress of a new and bigger house, renovations that have gone over budgeted and long pass the original dates of completion (yes, dates... plural) and I am currently living with my 2 kids at the parents house. The granite company has been a complete nightmare and the contractor is a friend of the parents and they are calling the shots and I am calling the shots, too. It is crazy. I lost it today because all I hear is what I can and cannot do to my backsplash, to my curtains, to my walls, to my landscaping, etc.... I have bought and sold a few houses prior to this so, I am not a newbie to all this. In addition, my last house, I was perfectly fine in and could afford quite well. I sold the house By Owner (with listings on MLS, FMLS), painted, upgraded and staged the house on my own.. it sold in 30 days in this market. But my parents think I am a complete idiot. Now, this house is 1/3 larger and in a prestigious area. So, the house is more than the other one by a long shot and also not one I chose. It was this neighborhood or none, if I was to get them to help me with the kids. I am worried about the house, about the economy, about my job, about my kids and about my well being. But mostly, I am tired of living with my naysayers in my life and need to just get away. I lost it because I still blame my mom for "forcing me to pick between my bf and my family". And my ex-bf .. he is now president and CEO of a major company. (I don't love him anymore but I did, and I think we are at 2 different places in our lives anyway, so, I am not contacting him -- I just read an announcement about his a few months back) My ex-husband, ... he is the no-show dad who is hiding because he doesn't want to pay for his kids. Great isn't it?!! My forced second choice was a complete winner! (My mom says that she warned me about his "player ways" -- but she met him, had his family over for dinner, etc... never even allowed me to have my ex-bf over to meet her once -- it was embarassing really. I broke it off because I wanted both my parents to get along with my choice in life -- that was stupid, I guess) So, instead of me not working and not being able to volunteer or play tennis on the weekday team or workout (si Cool beans ... that was uncalled for, I married my husband because he said he wanted kids and I did, too. I don't care that he left me, i only care about it for my kids. But honestly, I was the single parent even when we were technically married. I structured my entire life around my children. There isn't one day I not without them. So your comments are uncalled for and unnecessary. Additionally, I had a question about my relationship with my parents not with my ex. He is an idiot and if he doesn't want to have anything to do with them, that is his loss not ours. We have a great life. I get paid well enough, I live in large house and in one of the best areas in America, I am generally the glass half full type of gal So, for you to say, I don't want my kids ... that is a complete and utter rubbish. I am actually insulted, my kids are the best thing and the only reason why I strive to out do my brothers and my parents. Afterall they are also overachievers. The fact is I love my life without my parents in it. And I have conflicts with my feelings because of it. I have a great life without them butting into it. My children are 2 of the best and well adjusted kids out there -- as told to me by many other parents and teachers. So, I know I am living right.
Is a 3 TRILLION dollar war considered 'redistribution'? According to Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, the Iraq war is costing us $3 trillion dollars - enough to pave the entire U.S. highway system with 23.5 karat gold...three times over! He also blames part of the economic mess on the war: "The spending on Iraq was a hidden cause of the current credit crunch because the US central bank responded to the massive financial drain of the war by flooding the American economy with cheap credit." "The regulators were looking the other way and money was being lent to anybody this side of a life-support system," he said How come the very same people who are screaming Socialism about Obama, don't care that McCain wants to continue a war that could've paid for everyone's college education in the United States three times over? Or could've bought 3 ipods for every man, woman, and child on the face of the earth? Is this not wealth redistribution? Isn't your hard-earned money being wasted far more by Republicans? Who is paying for this? The only people I see profiting from this are military contractors and suppliers. http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/books_trillion_dollars http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23286149-2703,00.html National Defense? Re-asphalting my driveway...? I recently put in a retaining wall and plan to get my driveway paved. My existing aphalt is in bad condition (huge dips/pothole-like). One contractor said the entire thing needs to be dug out and a new base (3 inches of large grade gravel/3 inches of small grade) followed with 3 1/2 inch of binder/asphalt. his theory is the driveway does not have a strong base so needs one to prevent the dips. Another contractor wants to use the existing as the base and simply patch the dips with binder, level off the high areas and put 1 1/2-2 inches of asphalt over the existing driveway. he stated the driveway has already settled (hence the existing dips) and digging up will actually "unsettle" the ground. Any thoughts/opinions will be greatly appreciated. The driveway is 11 ft by 46 ft and i live in western PA. The contractor that wants to dig it all up is asking for $3,800 while the contractor who wants to coover the existing is asking $2,800.

Are there any laws that prevent a contractor from doing what he wants and demanding more money? Are there any laws that prevent a contractor from doing more than what is on the contract then demand more payment? My son signed a contract for his driveway to be filled with millets and the parking area paved for $5000.00.“Tar Parking area 25’ x 25’ ; millet to driveway 8’ x 45’; stone as needed, grading included if needed. He put down $800.00 and has $4200 due upon completion. I was there when the contractor‘s employees arrived. My son and I walked with the managing employee as he verified what will be done, using the contact. My son left for work and so did I. His wife (with their newborn) left for a doctor appointment. When she returned the entire driveway was paved. The own came to the door and demanded $8,000.00 stating that his employees did more than planned and he cannot afford to be paid only $5,000. He is over 6’ and 300 pounds. My daughter-in-law is 5’2 and weighs 125 pounds. He demanded she write a check for $8000.00 for a total of $8800.00. She said they do not have that kind of money, he then demanded she sign an agreement to pay the rest in installments. She called my son and the contractor is not threatening to tear the drive way up. He took the check for $4200.00 (the balance). My son was at work and asked for time to think about this. I was there when the contractors arrived and we went over it very clearly. There was no confusion as to what was agreed upon. I think he brought too much tar and did not want to take it back, so he instructed his employees to pay it all and not wants my son to pay for it or he is going to rip up the driveway. Are there any NJ State or federal laws to protect consumers from having a contractor do more than what is clearly written in the contract?
How much of the stimulus will go to Illegal Aliens? Do Democrats have any idea of the construction industry? First off, bids to these jobs are from the government, so they go by the minority point system. Second, the so called "stimulus" is mainly focused on infrastructure (primarily construction industry), and we ALL know that lots of illegals pave the roads, and build the schools. The contractors who win these bids hire them because they are cheap. This looks like it will be lots of stimulus for foreign workers, who send money back to Mexico. What do you think? BTW, I am a contractor myself, and no I do not hire illegals. I prefer to get the job done right the first time, its actually cheaper that way.. READ THE WHOLE QUESTION BEFORE ANSWERING!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opxuUj6vFa4
Do i have to pay for it? i've called the building contractors that build my house, i've called the city and asked them if they could pave the road i live on. i know that they may construct more houses on the road so i even asked if they can put finer material down because they have like 4 to 5 inch in diameter rocks layin out in the road, and i'm tired of callin and chasing people and keep being told that someone will come out or i'll page someone. NOW i've punched a whole in my oil pan twice and the suspension on my 2000 jetta is shot because of the road. is there any way i could get the city or probably the contractors to pay for the damage done to my car?
Need help with Business Law question? I need help with the Third Parties to Contracts situation: The Smooth Paving Company entered into a paving contract with the city of Chicago. The contract contained the clause "contractor shall be liable for all damages to buildings resulting from the work performed." In the process of construction, one of the bulldozers of the Smooth Paving Company struck and broke a gas main, causing an explosion and fire that destroyed the house of John Puff. Puff brought an action for breach of the paving contract against the Smooth Paving Company to recover damages for the loss of his house. Can Puff recover under this contract? Explain. Please fully explain your answer that would help me Thanks
Independent Contractor for the government....What do they do and how much do they make a year? I am 2 years away from a degree in Business Finance and my aunt works for the government and she gives out contracts to contractors. If a school needs to be build, a highway needs to be paved, a government building needs to be build, and etc., she will hire a contractor to do the work. My question is other then getting the lowest bidder what else do contractors do? One of my friends said he knows someone who made 60 grand in a month from contracting and also my mother told me one of her friends son made almost a million dollars from contracting. Another question how much do you normally make from this profession? I am thinking about doing this for a living because it sounds fun and the money sounds good, and my aunt said she would give me as many contracts that I want. Keep in mind I would be working for my self. What are potential earnings? Wow to Aolddad. When is the last time you been to an university or a college? The first 2 years of college is general education classes, examples (History, Philosophy, Biology etc.). Therefore, I do not start taking business classes until my last 2 years of college (Which starts this fall). You gave negativity instead of answering the question. My aunt didn't explain to me that much because we are at a family function and plus she is a very busy person to get a hold of. Shes also like 500 miles away...
Anbandoned Spur Lines? Do the companies who have the spur running into the land tell the rail company remove it? Or do they use contractors? What if the building is abandoned does the company that is reselling the site do anything with the spurs or do they just pave them over and let the land be sold? Would the rail company put locks on that switch so it stays on the line that is being used or do the engineers have to worry about it?
Homework Help? Ready-mixed concrete is sold by the cubic yard. A landscape contractor wants to form concrete paving blocks that are rectangular solids with dimension 36 inches by 36 inches by 6 inches. Assuming there is no waste, how many such blocks can she expect to make from one cubic yard of concrete. (1 Yard = 36 inches) thank you so much for your help.
Do liberals fear that Bush will become one of the greatest presidents? Do liberals fear that Bush will become one of the greatest presidents? As the world awaits General David Petraeus’s progress report on President Bush’s troop surge, even war critics concede that deploying 30,000 additional GIs has improved Iraq’s security. Largely overlooked, however, is how increased safety has helped U.S. soldiers and contractors rebuild its physical and institutional infrastructure. The Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) has performed much of the Pentagon’s $11.4 billion in reconstruction. So far, they have concluded 3,014 of 3,387 planned projects. ACE’s website highlights most of the details and comments cited here. While terrorists blasted holes in highways and water pipes, America has paved 38 new roads. Once 41 total projects are done, Iraqis will ride 265 miles of fresh thoroughfares. Already, 3.1 million Iraqis enjoy 142 million new gallons of purified water daily. Eventually, 300 million such gallons will flow daily to 5.2 million Iraqis, some of whom routinely fill buckets at distant wells. ACE announced Wednesday that it completed a $266 million facility to bring drinking water to 500,000 Iraqis in southern Dhi Qar province. This should combat water-borne diseases that often kill children up to age 5. While Islamofascists built roadside bombs, car bombs, and bomb vests, America stayed busy building or rehabilitating 77 primary healthcare centers and 16 hospitals, through August 20. Eventually, GIs will have finished work on 142 primary-care centers and 25 hospitals to serve up to 6.5 million Iraqis. “In my opinion,” said one Iraqi project engineer who helped ACE construct four hospitals in southern Maysan province, “providing these new and additional medical services will help reduce the infant mortality rate of the area.” While Muslim radicals deliberately machine-gunned boys and girls on school buses, U.S. troops through August 29 had renovated or built 810 schools, supplying classrooms for 324,000 students. As part of a $1 million effort, ACE last month finished rebuilding a soccer field, cafeteria, plumbing, and air conditioning at the student center of Baghdad’s Mustansiriya University, founded in 1234 A.D. While fanatic Muslims kidnapped Iraqi women for arranged marriages, American forces have helped female Iraqis thrive in engineering, business, and law enforcement. ACE encourages Iraqi women to participate in training and networking seminars for entrepreneurs who hope to bid on construction contracts. Among 40 companies at one such event in July, 10 were women-owned. “Women are a part of this society and together everyone who had an unfair chance during the last regime can now take advantage of their new opportunities within our new country,” said an Iraqi businesswoman named Luma. Meanwhile, ACE is erecting a three-story facility for female cops in An Najaf province. “The objective for building the $134,000 female training police station is to help advise, organize, and train Iraqi female officers on basic infantry tactics, from squad to battalion level, to further enhance the Iraqi police stations,” said Army Lt. Colonel Jan Carter. “As an Iraqi woman, I wish I could see more changes in the Iraqi community,” one female cop remarked. “I joined the Iraqi Army to participate in the noble mission of restoring security in Iraq. I want to see all the Iraqi people happy and living in peace.” Through July, America had spent $435 million on 404 Iraqi security and justice facilities including 154 border forts, 91 police stations, 32 courthouses, and four major prisons. Of course, these are more than just Iraqi pork-barrel projects. These concrete baby steps forward after 35 years of kleptocratic Baathist tyranny are drawing Iraqi hearts and minds toward America. U.S. efforts increasingly counteract the frustration Ahmed Raja Al Assan expressed in a Wednesday dispatch by Pentagon public-affairs specialist Sergeant Mike Pryor. “The terrorists are trying to kill us, kill our families,” Al Assan said. “We want to fight back.” “A key aspect of U.S. counterinsurgency strategy is to provide security, then basic services as soon as possible, while there is a strategic window in which we can prove our worth to the local public,” says Pete Hegseth, an Army reserve officer who served 11 months in Baghdad and Samarra and now leads Vets for Freedom. “It’s one thing to kick out the bad guys,” Hegseth tells me. “It’s another to prove that we are better.” President Bush’s troop surge is helping America deliver that proof.
which option is the better deal?accounting? schallville is considering two contracts to pave Broad Street. the first contractor bid $20,000 for the job and with maintenance of $1,000 per year, will guarantee the surface for five years. The second contractor bib $14,000 for the same section of the road and with maintenance expenses of $1,500 per year, will guarantee the surface for four years. assuming a discount rate of 8 percent, which option is the better deal and why?
