How do you find out if a contractor has insurance?

When the contractor is not willing to provide that information to you after he messed up a job.

  1. i would think that he doesnt have insurance. get a lawyer and he will have to pay for that to.
  2. File suit. It is likely that if he has it, it will appear. Either way, you are on your way to resolving the issue. You should have obtained copies of his licence and insurance and verified them prior to signing a contract. Caveat Emptor

  4. Like the person said, He probably doesn't have insurance. Call the better business bureau. If he got a building permit to do the job then check with the township. Next time get references,permits and ask before you sign if they do have insurance. The lowest bidder is not always the cheapest in the long run now is it.
  5. Chances are, he does not have insurance coverage. Have your attorney look into this situation. Sometimes a letter from an attorney will get a contractor's attention. If he doesn't have insurance, you will likely get your attorney involved anyway. Good luck with your problem.
