what do painting contractors charge for painting the interior of a house?

with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, plus 6 walk in closets,kitchen and living room with cathedral ceilings ?

1. It depends on the contractor. Just check the yellow pages... call around and get some quotes.
2. Usually, you get what you pay for in terms of end results and quality. Most charge an hourly rate and figure the total hours to finish, and this is your labor charge. [figured @ $28 /hr here]. Paint, chemicals, supplies [like tape,masking paper, drop clothes, etc] are also added to the cost. A flat wall with no windows or trim will obviously cost much less than a wall the same size with 4 windows, crown moulding, 3 part baseboard, and a fireplace in the middle of it, so it also depends on the prep time, which is usually half of the hours worked [or more]. Beware of someone who will come in and do it for cheap, beacause you might end up replacing carpeting, or paying someone to redo it the right way.
