  1. yes, you have to have a license to do any home improvements in cali!! worst state in the country about licensing.
  2. I would hire someone with a license, this way...no problems later on. I hate a draft when it is cold out.
  3. Customer want you have a license to do your job, but if you want to fix your own house, who will ask ? your house is your business...
  4. Yes, you should also make sure that the property owner have insurance and you have insurance to cover you and your workers in case of accidents. California really enforces this law, so please make sure you have everything you need for your business. You do not want to be caught without the necessary paperwork, it can be costly to you and your family.
  5. In California you can perform any home improvement on your own home although you will still need to get a building permit and have the work inspected if the city requires it. If you are performing the work for someone else for $$$ you will need a contractors license if the total dollar value of the materials and labor is over $300. Window and door installations fall under Ca. licensing as either a General (class B) or a Glazing (C-17).
