How do I measure my windows for ordering window tint film?
I would like to do it myself. Do I measure linear feet or do I measure square footage? I have 20 windows but the panels are no wider than 32 inches or longer than 29 inches. I have several estimates for the same film but wildly different in terms of price. How do the contractors come up with the true amount of film needed? Thank you in advance

- get it done right... the film looks crazy cheap, and will eventually bubble if the temperature gets over 100.
- The widest measurement is needed so you won't have splices. You need to figure out how many linear feet you can get by with. you'll be able to limit your waste, it you take the time to start from the largest windows and work your way down, using up any material that will work, as you go along. Have fun and be patient.
- Check to see what widths the film comes in in order to match up what best fits your windows and minimizes the waste. then it would be lineal inches for best fit, even though the film may be sold in square ft.
- The company I purchased mine from charged and warranted my film by the total square footage. But, the installers told me that they purchase the film by the linear foot because that is how it is sold to them. They also build in 5-7% waste. I didn't have estimates that were that wildy varied, but I went with the company with the best warranty. The company I chose has a lifetime warranty on both the film and the windows. My neighbor used them too and had condensation develop on a huge 2 story window that didn't clear. No problem, they came out replaced the window and the film.
- That is tacky crap. It will look like crap in no time. Just buy blinds.
