Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

Contractors, please expose the magic numbers. How much does it cost to remodel these items?

sliding door to a patio, 6 foot bedroom window, remove a tub and install a walk-in shower with new travestine tiling Every time I try to google it, all I can find are people who want to come out and give me estimates. I want to know a number before I meet these people, so I can tell how inflated their prices are. The Flip That House show hasn't been too helpful because they don't itemize the work they are doing.

  1. Assuming you have the materials......labor on the patio door around $350-$500, labor on the window around $300-$500, remove tub and install shower around $1500-$2500.
  2. you are not going to find ANY contractor worth anything to give you an estimate of work to be done with out going to the job site and seeing what actually has to be done.. 1- every job is diffrent, every building is diffrent, and the challenges are diffrent for each job. 2- you sound like one of those people who want to go to the local home depot and get the supplies for the contractor because you think you can save some money by getting the stuff on your own.... not only is this going to annoy the contractor come time to do the job, when you bought the wrong size of something, not enough of something else, or failed to get the proper supplies, or everything needed for the job, causing the contractor to have to stop what he is doing to make secondary trips to the supply house, and delay the job, and cost you more in the long run on labor and materials... unless you have a contractor that comes recommended, or already have a contractor then get at least 3 estimates.... the cheapest estimate is not always the best... and the most expensive is also not always the best... experience, insurance, guarantee and your impression of the contractor are all important.. and if you can get references of other jobs the contractor has completed, that should help you determine which contractor to choose..
