  1. ROOFING HAMMER, ROOFING NAILS,SHINGLES,AND TOOL BELT TO PUT NAILS IN. TAKE THE FRAME TO HOME DEPOT AND HAVE THEM PUT THE GLASS IN
  2. sorry to hear about the tornado, but on the other hand if your house is an older house, it gives a prime chance to look and see what type of condition the osb is in, and replace it if need be. you can do this very easy and simply; first go down to lowes, or home depot and look for black paper, this will go down under the shingles, i recommend using thirty lb instead of fifteen, fifteen maybe roll out longer, but it's thinner and not so great, you'll end up using twice as many button tabs on it rather than thirty lb paper. Next you'll need button tabs, if your not sure what to look for, ask the sales clerk, they'll know what im reffering to, tell them you need it for black paper. also, you'll want big headed nails, galvanized 5/8, to one inch long. One last thing you'll want to carry on you; plenty of water or gatoraide. I work outside and on roofs on a daily baisis; this is the most important thing..hope i helped!
  3. To fix the roof, you will first need a tarp, so if rain comes while you have part of it stripped, you can keep it covered. You will need tar paper if the roof is stripped to the wood, shingles, roofing nails with large heads, aluminum or plastic disks to nail through to for the tar paper. You will see pneumatic staple guns being used but that is not the best choice per the shingle makers (but is what I used) Good swinging hammer - 16 ounce, fiberglass handle to my taste. Knife for cutting shingles. The specialty hammers for shingles with a cutter require skill and are awkward and tiring for amateurs. A hat. Lots of liquid - gatoraid or water. You will need a strong ladder and may wish to have a block and tackle because carrying a package of shingles up a ladder is a strain. You may need a crowbar or bigger claw to take the bad shingles off the roof. Clear a section of the roof you can cover with the tarp. Remove the shingles and if torn, the tar paper. Pound all the nail heads in or take them out. The rolled tar paper is put down starting at the edge, nailed every foot or so with the larger disks that keep it from tearing, overlapping as you work up the roof. Try to cut and tuck edges under old roofing. You will start at the edge of the roof with a half shingle turned upside down to give a double lip (directions on the packages, usually) When you get to the old stuff, you are going to have to slide shingles in under, so you will be lifting up, perhaps notching the top edge to fit around nails and nailing under the flap. Helps it they are warm and will bend. For glass for windows, you need a sharp pointy tool to clean out the remaining hardened putty, a can or tube of glazing putty, a narrow flexible putty knife, and a package of glazing points which hold the glass while applying the putty. The glass needs to be cut to size slightly smaller than the frame so it drops in. The glazing points are laid on the glass and pushed into the wood with a flat blade screwdriver and the glazing putty is applied over and smoothed down. If you decide to buy larger sheets of glass and cut your own to size, measuring as you go, you will need a metal straight edge, a flat surface, ideally with a square of carpet on it, a glass cutter and perhaps a wooden dowel to place under the scratch to push down on for an even break.
