What are my rights as a independent contractor?
I am a independent contractor, My " boss" well "ex-boss" has not paid me for 2 weeks of work that I did. What are my rights as a independent contractor? I know I can not report it to the department of labor because they only handle "employee" claims not independent contractors claims. Someone please help! THANKS!

- File a lawsuit in your local small claims court.
- You have to sue him in small claims court. You can also put a lien on the business if you win. You could kind of mention that to him, before you file to see if that changes his mind. Also, by going to court, it's bad PR for him. It's all public record.
- If you are a contractor I assume you have a contract. You can take that contract to small claims court. First off you should try to handle the situation without going to court, since it will cost you a lot of time and effort and will probably not be worth the hassle. However, the threat of it should be enough to convince the ex-boss.
- THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS SUE HIM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT.
- First off write your COMPANY you work for a DEMAND LETTER, search the internet for one that would apply to you. In the Demand letter explain this is the last chance to pay up and state the COMPANY has 10 days to pay you or you have no choice to begin litigation against the company.
- You could also notify the IRS and your state tax agency. Most are dieing to get employer's into court for tax evasion. Yes I would report it labor broad. Don't believe all that crap about you being an IC and having no rights. (Remember labor lien.) You might also check this site out . http://www.mynica.com/
