What is the normal height a shower head should be mounted above the shower floor?

I know that tall people like them mounted higher, but what is the height that most plumbing contractors mount them in a new house.

  1. 6 foot!
  2. above your head atleast.
  3. Mount two of them one 6 foot for the washing effect and one about 3-4 foot for the thrill of it.......
  4. I think 7 feet will do it.
  5. The pipe usually comes out of the wall at 6 feet 6 inches from the base of the shower stall. This is VERY annoying for me because I'm 6 feet 4 inches tall and end up having to duck in order to get under the shower head. Bear in mind that the pipe that comes out of the wall usually has a 45-degree bend near the end of it, so the shower head will actually be lower than 6 feet 6 inches.
  6. 6 feet is only a minimum requirement in most code books. You can set it higher for you personal preference. The guy that is 6'4" is going to have to duck down if it is mounted too low. I have run into this problem often and my advice is threefold: move the plumbing up,get a massage type with a hose and mount the bracket high enough to compensate, or get the bar that extends straight out that is adjustable up to 2 feet that has a short 90 at the end for the shower head.
  7. I agree that 6 feet above the ground sounds like the industry standard, and for taller folks, mounting the shower head higher would be much more comfortable for them, I know my shares of gents who are 6'2" or taller.
  8. Being over in Germany right now, I prefer the vertical slide bar with the moveable hand wand. Since I'm 6'3" and my wife 5', it makes things much easier that way, and she really, really enjoys the pulsating massage spray head.
  9. 72" Some people go higher or lower in DIY projects based on their desires.. I have a son that is 6'4" I'd place the shower at about 6'4"-6'8" to accomodate his height.
