What are the legalities of hiring an independent contractor from a different country?
I'm thinking in particular a sort of "outsourced office assistant". I've read a couple of blogs from people who've done this, but those who I've emailed have yet to get back to me. So, does anyone know the legalities of doing this? I know sites like Elance do this for an expensive fee, but they cover the legalities by writing the contracts and making sure that this is indeed an independent contractor Not an employee (this is very important to the IRS for taxation reasons). Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

- not legal if not authorised to work in the country. if they are authorised to work then they have the same protection under the law that citizens have and are entitled to.
