How do I get paint out of my garbage disposal?
I had a careless moronic contractor paint our walls before we moved in (he has since dispeared). He was pouring the excess paint down the garbage disposal and now when you run the water on that side of the sink the water will not go down? any ideas? when you flip the switch it makes a humming noise but it wont actually work.

- Will the garbage disposer blades turn if you turn on the switch for the disposer? If they do then the clog is in the pipe after the disposer, remove the pipe and clean or replace it. If the rotor is jammed by the congealed paint then you will probably have to remove the disposer, and try to clean out the dried paint from the blades. Make sure it is unplugged!!! Or buy a new disposer and install it.
- THe drain pipe from the disposal may be blocked with paint. not very hard to remove and take a look. The disposal may be gummed up also. will the disposal work ???
- he also clogged the pipes. get someone to change the undersink pipes. the P trap especially.
- Not good. If the paint has dried, it may have clogged the drain, you may need a plumber. Try running some ice cubes in it. May not work. DO NOT put any kind of drain opened in it. BAD!!! Other than that, I'd call a plumber.
- Oh my. That's a new one. I'd start by pulling the P trap from between the disposal and the wall. Have a bucket underneath to catch whatever falls out. Clean the trap with a brush. Hopefully the trouble is there. If not, the paint may have dried in the disposal itself, which is a bit more of a hassle. Try to clean the drain of the disposal, where it went into the P trap you just took off. If there is no paint there, hand auger the pipe going into the wall. Then file a claim in small claims court.
