Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

How much will it cost to hire a contractor for a consultation?

We recently had our supply line to our icemaker bust and now we have to replace the kitchen floor. My husband and I would like to lay the new floor ourselves, but we'd like to have a contractor come in to let us know if the sub-floors are acceptable or if they'll need replaced. About how much will this cost? Thanks!

  1. CONSULTS ARE USUALLY FREE..IF YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR ONE..THEN YOU KNOW HE'LL BE A RIPE OFF..LOOK FOR SOMEONE ELSE
  2. Contractors I've had come out gave a free estimate, but be sure to ask!
  3. Call a few...I bet you'll find that if they're only consulting, but not actually going to get to do the work, they won't even come out. You might find one who will do it for a fee, usually a small company with no immediate work to do...they might even credit you the estimate fee if they wind up having to replace the sub-floor. Strand-board and plywood often swell or buckle from being soaked, making removal necessary. Good Luck. Whoever you choose, make sure that they are bonded, licensed and insured.
  4. yeah we do them for free, but if ur planning to do all the work urself even the sub floor if needed, i think u should tell the guy ahead of time so that he is not thinking he is looking at a possible job in the coming weeks! if u will send me some pics of the floor and answer a few questions i might be able to help ya........ lic. gen. contractor
  5. Will your homeowners insurance pay? Otherwise I hear 100.00 is usually the going rate.
