what are the requirements to become courier contractor or owner driver?

in sydney suburb region,how old the van should be? whom to contact? what would be terms and conditions and risk factors?

1. Stick to reputable companies. Try Toll Fast or Toll Prority, both top companies
2. Try to get into companies that pay you an hourly rate eg Australian Air Express,TNT,Toll Priority.This won't be easy without a contact and they would more likely go for an experienced driver who they have had some dealings with.These companies require you to replace vans every 5 years as they claim that the cost for this is factored into your hourly rate of pay. Working for companies that pay you for adhoc work only will in most instances just slowly send you broke as you don't get paid for sitting on the side of the road.A lot of these companies will give anyone a go as long as you have a van of some sort due to the high turnover of drivers. Be very careful about paying any sort of franchise fee because there are plenty of courier positions going out there that require no start up fees that pay no less money. To start with you will probably have to join some flea bag outfit and hope that you make contacts down the track that will lead you to a better pay cheque. You will require an ABN,some companies also require you to become a corporation and public liability insurance is also on the cards
3. Usually a less than six year old white van good knowledge of the roads and suburbs .Willing to do the shitty early morning jobs will help and being able to prove you are reliable ~~
