Can i repair my house with an insurance claim if I'm a licensed contractor?
I'm a licensed contractor and the insurance company sent me a portion of the money to start the work and they will send me the rest once the work is completed by a contractor of my choice. can i do this myself?

- You didn't tell us which state you are in. In Missouri you can make the repairs yourself even if you are not a licensed contractor. As long as everything is up to code. If it is major damage that requires electrical repairs you would have to have a licensed electrician sign off on it.
- ~~I think it would depend on your insurance company's policies, and what state you live in. If you are licensed, then I think you would be as eligible as anyone you could hire!~~
- Absolutely. Be sure to keep a log of the hours you work on your house.
- Yes, you can fix it- but expect the ins. co. to deduct "profit" and "overhead" from the total. As the insured, you are not entitled to profit and overhead.
- Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my homeowners policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always a phone call away. Try contacting your agent or a agent in your city. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They will be able to assist you.
