Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

What do I claim on my taxes? I am an independent contractor?

I sell advertising for a company. However, I am not an employee of the company - I am an independent contractor. What is my business name for the sake of filling out my taxes?

  1. Unless you are a business with a business license then you don't have a business name. You can file your self employment income on your personal tax return. You will probably fill out a schedule C or SE depending on the complexity. Go to www.irs.gov for more info.
  2. If you don't have a business name, put your name and address on the schedule C.
  3. Take the time to review IRS Publication 334. That will give you an idea of what expenses you can claim.
