i worked for a company as and installer for 5 years as a independent contractor can i collect unemployment in the state of nj ?

  3. There are a few different factors that will determine whether or not you can receive benefits. For starters, whomever paid your salary must have paid the state UE tax on a quarterly basis. This is simply a tax all employers must pay to the state. If you are approved, this is where your benefits come from.
