Got contractors coming inside, need shoes booties or coverings?
Got contractors coming inside to install window treatments, I need shoes booties or those plastic sticky carpet covering. I cant find sturdy shoe booties at HD and Lowes. The ones from those hospitals would be ideal. Any ideas on how to best protect the flooring while they are here (they wont take off their shoes)? If its booties, where can I find them? I am located in So Cal. THanks!

- If you go to Home Depot or Lowe's, you can get carpet protector. It's a film like Saran Wrap that is adhesive on one side. Roll it out where the guys will be walking and working. When they are done, peel it up and toss it. Hope this helps.
- Call a medical supply store.
- you might be able to get the booties at a paint store, or you could try http://www.mcmaster.com/ booties-part number 5583T22, $10.80 for a package of 10 pairs you could also try grainger if you have one near you http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml
- One of our local hospitals have a small medical supply store. I get mine there. I know it is your home but it is my workplace and it is illegal for me to remove my shoes. Since I work with heavy items and electricity the shoes are also mandated by law to be rubber soled and steel toed. What you think it you went to bank and they told you to leave your shoes at the door to keep the place cleaner? Or how likely would it be to go to an office and find everybody barefoot? I will remove my shoes to walk through a house to where I am working and put them back on, but I'm not supposed to that. I carry my own booties. Sometimes customers will put down sheets, mats, or cardboard for us to walk on. Sometimes though they are too slippery and can be dangerous too. And in Japan they give you slippers at the door and when you go to put your shoes back on you will find they have shined your shoes for you. But they also sit and sleep on their mat covered floors so it is more understandable. So please also consider our situation. Thanks. And btw, I like to have those booties for going through security at the airport where they make you take off your shoes. They are handy for that.
- Call a local janitorial supply house, they will have the footies. They work much better than the rolls of floor shield as they might need to go somewhere you have not placed the plastic film on the floor. They are so cheap that they can put new ones on several times during the day for about .20 a pair. You won't need to spend a couple hours putting down the floor shield. We carry them on our trucks, but the window treatment company might not have them with them.
- The overriding issue here is why the contractors won't comply with your request to take off their shoes. If they've got holes in their socks they need to provide their own booties. We've had many contractors in our home over the years and most provided their own booties. The ones that did not, or ran out on that particular day, had no problem taking off their shoes and usually did so before we even asked. You need to evaluate your selection of contractors.
- Re removing footwear at the job site. Most insurance and OSHA regs require proper footwear. Imagine running a nail thru your foot cause you were on the job in your socks..
