I'm an independent contractor so how do i file with no W2?
I am an independent contractor in the US working for an over sea's company. I invoice them every 2 weeks, and they pay me by electronic deposit. In the past I paid an accountant to file my taxes. If I want to file myself, how can I to file electronicaly with no W-2?

- 1099 or collect your invoices and do 1040 sch E
- If you're an IC then you won't get a W2. Not sure about an international company, but U.S. companies are required to give a 1099 to any contractor who they pay more than $600 for the year. If the company you do work for doesn't provide a 1099, the IRS has methods to deal with not having one. I doubt you'll be able to file electronically in your situation, but you never know. I would contact a CPA because that will make your life a lot easier.
- Your business income and expenses would be reported on Schedule C. If your profit is over $400 you also need to file Schedule SE. As as side note, its important to remember that its the sources rather than the amounts of income which make a return easy or difficult. If you cannot determine how your return was prepared by reviewing previous years, you may be in over your head on this one.
- You are self-employed. A US company would have to issue you a 1099, and you'd use that. But if they don't, You still file Schedule C, and SE, and pay self employment tax. Hopefully you kept good records of expenses and receipts and deductions and mileage. Take a look at prior year tax returns for an idea of what you should do. And do it NOW, because if you find you need expert help, the longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to get.
- If your an independent contractor you need to file a 1099R
- You should be getting a 1099 from that company, and if you don't, you need to contact the IRS about forcing that company to give you one. Unfortunately, the company is overseas, so that may not be possible. I hope you have kept accurate books about how much income the company has given you. I would suggest you consider filing an extension if you don't have all your 'ducks in a row.' W-2's are only for employees not independent contractors. Thus, you may even pay a penalty if you did not pay quarterly taxes. Most of your income will be reported on schedule C (I assume you're not a corporation). I would suggest getting a book on sole proprietors on what items/statements you need to figure out your net income. You have a lot ahead of you.
- You'll fill out a schedule C or C-EZ, a schedule SE, and a form 1040. If you don't get a 1099-misc from the company, and if they are non-US you probably won't, you file from your records.
