Receiving a 1099 while I'm not an independent contractor?

I tried to do my taxes but they told me that I will have to pay a lot of money because the company I worked for didn't deduct anything from my paychecks the whole last year. But I wasn't an independent contractor, I worked on a schedule for the company and used their tools also so what can be done about it?

  1. You file a form ss-8 and make your case to the IRS. if they agree with you, you file a form 8919 to pay only 7.65% of the payroll taxes and let the IRS collect the other half from the payer.
  2. if you received a w-2 and it shows that you didn't pay any taxes then you will owe taxes. a w-2 means that you're an employee. if you received a 1099 misc from the company then you were an independent contractor and will have to pay self-employment tax. However you can deduct any expenses from that income and only pay tax on your net income. You can deduct your liability insurance, vehicle mileage, meals, uniforms, supplies, office expenses, cell phone if used for business.
