Can someone with a tax id # and no green card work as an independent contractor?
I recently "hired" an independent contractor. At the time I thought he was legally allowed to work in the country. Now I know he has a tax id #, but no green card. He was born in Guatemala. Is it illegal for me to pay him? If it is, I don't want to go to jail, what should I do?

- Anyone can work as an independent contractor but to be successful and make money with it you must be licensed. I don't know if you can obtain a license without proper papers.
