durarock or hardi backer over green drywall for tiles?
My contractor has installed green board in my 2 bathrooms, for the wet areas like next to the tub where i have a shower head , and the shower stall is it ok to lay the hardi backer on top of the green board in order to lay the tile or do i have to strip it back to the studs ?

- Hardi board or cement board is meant to be used INSTEAD of green board. The wall will be too thick if the green board is left in place. Which could interfere with moldings or trim, etc. If it were my bath, I'd remove the green board.
- The best system and protection you can have are these 2 in combination.I do prefer cement board as my personal choice though..I ve used it for 20 years and never a problem, but thats your choice. Now the ONE thing you do have to be aware of, does your tile have the special trim piece that you need to return the tile back to the wall. There are 2 types . One is called an A4200 and the other is an A 106 or A108 depending on the length. Ant questions you can e mail me . The other choice you have if your tile doesn t have these trims are to recess the hardi or cement board and to make it flush . GL
