- I've had several clients use Home Depot contractors before with mixed results. The problem is that some of the contractors are great, some are average, and some are bad. If you're a good contractor, why would you do work for Home Depot and make less money than you would working on your own? The biggest advantage is that everyone I've talked to that had a problem with a H.D. contractor had the problem taken care of fairly quickly by H.D., the problem is that quiet a few of the people I've talked to HAD a problem with a Home Depot supplied contractor.
- Check on the internet for local reviews of Home Depot -- people's experiences with Home Depot's contractors vary widely depending on the area.
- I personally would stay away from HD. Most independent contractors also will take credit card payment. Whoever you consider, get several recent references, and contact them, also check with BBB for complaints.
- Yes, I've used HD.....HUGE MISTAKE!!! Understand that the HD credit card might have their name on it, but it is owned by Citi Bank. Regardless of what happens, Citi Bank wants their money. It took me 15 weeks (without a kitchen) before we finally got a half ass resolution. Google "Complaints about Home Depot" and be prepared for page after page after page. Once they got your money (and they want 100% up front) you can warm the bench until they decide to do something. Any other contractor will want a deposit with the balance due on satisfactory completion. Good luck!!!
- I used them once, to install a storm door I bought at HD, and they were quite good actually (they had to do some tricky things to get the flashing to mate with odd shaped bricks beside the doorway, and did a good job of that, no extra cost, and they stuck to their quoted price and schedule). For a larger job, regardless of whether it was a HD contractor or other contractor, I would never do anything without word-of-mouth recommendations from trusted friends or family. (that's what I do for roofing, driveway, ceramic tiling, that type of thing, to make sure I don't end up with a nightmare contractor!) Good luck!
- read the below. You don't have to read all of the 1000s of responses. A few will give you an idea.
- My husband is a "puller" for Contractor Services at the Home Depot here in town. All you have to do is tell them what item(s) you want (the exact model number), the amount(s) and when you want them to be ready for you to pick up. You CAN have it delivered, but on average, Home Depot's delivery company (here, its a company called Estes) charges $75 per order...sometimes more if you live further away..but not close enough to have it delivered from another store. Your best bet is to have THEM make up your order, and go pick it up yourself. You'll save the hassle of searching around for your stuff, and save money on delivery charges. Also, you can have Contractor Services order out-of-stock items, and custom order items for you as well.
