Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

How to pick a drywall/contractor in general? ?

Hi, my husband and I are looking to finish our basement. It is already framed and studded. I'm wondering what's the best option to find a contractor? What do I need to look for and what do I need to ask? Insurance? References?

  1. check the better business bureau - and if it is not in writing in "your" contract do not believe it. people can say anything -delivering is another thing. many contracts cherry pick - most might not even get back to you - patience is the key word when talking work done.
  2. usually you would ask around i suggest the local building supply house.it never hurts to get references you can find someone in the phone book and ask around if they are any good but i still recommend the local building supply place they ussaly knows who's good and who isn't and it in their interest to give you the name of a good one.then they know you'll be back
  3. You hit the 2 most important points. Insurance and references are a must. Other questions to consider are: Will they get rid of the scrap? Does the bid include taping and texturing? Will they prime the walls as well? How long will the job take? All of these factors will affect the bid, so when comparing contractors be sure that they are for the exact same work. Good luck.
  4. OK I am a contractor over 30 years get references and make phone calls;to check and see what kind of work they do;prices will vary drastically -good rule never go with the low guy and never take the high guy;request to see work thats been done either by pictures or talking to homeowners of said jobs ;ask were they punctual;professional and trustworthy.you need to see up close or get anotherrs word of how the tape and spackle job came out;its hard to tell by pictures;should not run more then 20 dollars per board spackled primed and painted ;prices will vary accordingly to where you live;could be double that -save money by painting and priming yourself
