How do you speed up the process of paint off gassing?
I have a little one on the way and was planning on painting the nursery with a no VOC paint. While I was out last week the contractors painted the nursery (2 coats thanks) with a paint that I definitely didn't want to use. I don't really want to strip the paint off and repaint. Does anyone know of ways to speed up the off gassing process?

- Ventilation and heat will speed up the process. If you don't have the baby next week, the paint will likely be completely dry by the time you give birth. Remember, VOC means volatile organic carbon. Once it all evaporates, it's gone, and it evaporates fairly quickly. Putting a fan in the window will speed things up. DK
- Heat and ventilation..
- Was the paint, oil or latex? With oil based paint you risk hurting the durability of the paint if it is dried too rapidly. The room should be warm and well ventilated. With Latex you will not hurt the durability very much buy getting it hot as with a hair dryer. In either case you should look at the paint can and read the instructions. Keep the room warm and well ventilated and as stated in the previous answer all outgassing of volatile organic compounds should be complete in a week or 2. Also keep in mind the level of the compounds released is probably well below a level that can do any harm. With adequate ventilation in a room 10 x10 or larger there are no worries whatsoever.
