What qualities should I look for when selecting a contractor?

Aside from workmanship/skill and a fair estimate, what other maybe hidden qualities should I look for when selecting a contractor for home improvement repairs? Lend me your experience. Thanks!

  4. First and foremost request to see proof that he and his workers are insured. Ask the contractor for several references and contact them to inquire about workmanship, punctuality and over all performance. Do the same for all the sub-contractors involved in your project as well.

  6. Make sure he and his workers are insured, and bondable, and that he is a registered company. Check with the better business bureau to be sure there have been no complaints. Just make sure he follows safety measures and does clean up when completed too.
