Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

Can an independent contractor receive unemployment benefits?

I was recently laid off from work through no fault of my own. The company was simply running out of money. I was re-positioned as an independent contractor (doing outside sales) so i now receive no income. I am paid a commission when I make a sale, but I dont really have a boss. Will I be eligible for unemployment benefits?

  1. Sadly no. You must be a salaried employee with W-2's to collect unemployment benefits.
