Can a contractor put a lien on your home without you signing a contract with them?
The contractor was assigned to me from my insurance company.

- Possible. Depends on the policy and the agreement the insurance company and the contactor have. I'd take everything to a lawyer; or at least talk to the county clerk of court.
- Certainly. The contractor was employed by your insurance company. If the insurance company does not pay the contractor, he will put a mechanic's lien on your house. That's been happening with builders who have abandoned or completed their building project (homes) and left the scene without paying their contractors. The new owner who is not aware of the problem will get a bill for the outstanding debt.
- Yes, they worked on your property in good faith and your agreement with your insurance agency allowed them to send the contractor of their choice. Just pay what you owe and this would not happen.
