Where is a good place to locate a General Contractor?

I am trying to get a house built for the first time and need to locate a general contractor. Any ideas where I can find a good one?

The local home builders association, the Better Business Bureau, the Yellow Pages are all places to start. You still need check them out by talking with them, checking many references and possible suppliers that they do business with. Seeing some of their work is also a clue.
