Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

Can you be a real estate developer and an architect?

I was wondering if you could go to college and eventually become a liscened architect and then become a real estate developer meaning you buy land, then design the houses(being you a liscensed architect) and have a contractors build them and then you sell them at the end...and would this be a good job?

  1. Lots ppl are doing so without the architect certification, but you definitely need capital to do any real estate developing investment. And it is actually better to get genral contractor license than the architect, because it takes about 5 years to get the degree, but less in general contractor. And GC is the one who build the house, you can always buy existing floor plans to get the house and make modifications. Most developers started with renovation of old property not the brand new from the ground. And you have lots to learn on how to modify the place. You need to stay in one city so you will learn all the codes. Good luck!
  2. Sure. Just study Real Estate, then development and architecture. Go for it!
