Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

Basement construction wood or concrete?!?!?

We are wanting to have a basement dug and move a new home onto the basement. We arent sure the difference or pros and cons to wood basement vs. concrete basements. We have heard wood basements have become more costly then concrete. Honestly we arent even sure where to begin! Do we hire a General Contractor? Do we hire someone for the excavating or where do we start?!? We feel like first time homebuyers who are in this blind. Any suggestions or opionions or advice would be GREAT!! THANKS!! By the way we live in North Dakota. We have very cold winters not sure if this impacts the wood or concrete one way or another...sure it does!

  1. Find a reputable general contractor or two or three and tell them what you want and take bids for the project. A good place to start is with the mobile home or manufactured home dealer. They can usually sell you the house and do all the prep work and the move and hookup. Include electrical water, gas , sewer hookups. Use concrete for anything on or in the ground. Termites, rot, mold, mildew with wood.
