Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

What book is this? I will tell what I remember of it.?

I read this book about 10 years ago if that helps. I have a feeling that the book probably older than that. The story tell the life of an immigrant family over a couple of generations. It starts with a man who is a home builder who becomes an owner of a contractor company That builds cheap homes. His family becomes prosperous. His kids grow up and grow apart. I remember at the end of the story he is on a sailboat with his grandson. His grandson is suffering because he think he maybe gay. The grand son kills himself why swimming as deep as he can knowing that he will drown. This was a fairly large book, maybe 500 pages.

  1. could it possibly be - A Proud Immigrant Family - by Stephen Holden (published in 1999)
  2. The Villagers by Edward Field (620 pages) "This saga of one hundred thirty years of Greenwich Village, the artistic and gay heart of New York, as lived through by four generations of an extraordinary family is an irresistibly compelling story." "The next great turn of events is when Patrick catches Eugene in the basement having sex with a workman modernizing the family house with new electrical wiring. Shame drives Eugene away to self-destructiveness. His sister Polly cannot forgive him but his mother Elizabeth tries to protect him from his own downward spiral."
