Can I work as an independent contractor and still collect unemployment benefits in Illinois?

Can I collect unemployment benefits in Illinois while working as an independent contractor at the same time? Can I work as an independent contractor and still collect unemployment benefits in Illinois? I am collecting unemployment benefits and I found work as a field inspector. I am considered an independent contractor. Will this affect my benefits?

  1. Well, yeah. You are required to report the income you made (even if not paid yet) when you file for unemployment for the week. The income will be taken into account in determining if you have any remaining benefits for the week. Failure to report the income is fraud. The payer of the IC income will issue you a 1099-Misc. If the state doesn't find out now, they will find out later when they get a copy of your income statements at the end of the year.
  2. You have to report it to the unemployment bureau, and unless it's a very small amount of income yes it will affect your benefits.
  3. yo need to report what you have made on the self employment and yes it might affect your unemployment in that you might not be available to take a job that is offered you and that is a disallowance
