What do I need to make an Invoice?

I am negositiating a contract as a 1099 contractor and a requirement is to give the employer an invoice to get paid. Do I need to set up my own company, or can I just use my social security number? Does he need to get the physical Invoice or just send him and Email or someohther way?

  1. You can use your SSN#.... A hardcopy is usually the accepted means.
  2. I think that I would either use a commercial program like QuickBooks or make a form on Word or some other word processor.
  3. Most stationary stores carry numbered, pre-printed Invoice forms in booklet style. They come in duplicate and triplicate format. The duplicate format leaves a copy for your own records. These are widely accepted by vendors.
