I am trying to find someone to do a tub to shower conversion for my father who has become disabled-?

he needs to be able to wheel into the shower stall. he also needs ramps built so he can get outside. they are on a fixed income and cannot afford to hire a contractor. thought maybe some organization could help. any ideas?

  1. Look in the phone book for agencies for the disabled. Also try his or your church if you have one. They may have volunteers who can help with this at minimal cost.
  2. There are dozens of organizations that might help - but which would depends on where you are and what disability your father has. Start by calling every social service agency in your area and asking - then try the charities. You can find some of those numbers at http://www.katrinadisability.info - then click on your state.
  3. Call the Saint Vincent de Paul chapter in your area. They do a lot of good things to help disabled people who cannot afford necessary changes or alterations to their homes on their own. They would certainly appreciate a donation if you can afford one, but they would not charge you. Or if you could buy some of the supplies they will need that would help them.
  4. Ask your local authority or council where you pay your rent tell them and they will get somebody to fix your conversion free of chanrge.
  5. Call your nearest Independent Living Center (ILC) for suggestions.
