Is a licensed contractor needed to obtain a building permit (particularly in New Orleans)?
I am planning on renovating a gutted home. Will I be able to obtain permits / inspections without a licensed contractor? Thanks. I was planning on using an unlicensed contractor. However, he is in the process of becoming licensed for remodeling and renovation projects. This should do the trick. Thanks.

- You'll have to check with New Orleans code enforcement division about that. My guess is that you probably can but you'll save yourself an enormous number of headaches if you let a contractor do the work because they are required to obtain the permits and inspections themselves. There are going to be electrical, plumbing, and HVAC permits involved as well. These can only be pulled by a licensed contractor.
