Should I remove ice shield and or flashing that was placed in a valley by a roofing contractor when I replace?

shingles in that area that have lifted because of sun/heat reflection, or should I just replace the shingles at that valley on the side they have lifted. There is no leak! Ice shield apparently has done a terrific job there. There is already ice shield under the flashing.

  1. unless there a problem with it id leave it a lone you know what they say is true if its not broken then dont fix it
  2. While the valley is in good shape now, after you remove the nails penetrating from the old shingles, it may leak. It costs about $20 to replace the valley tin. So to save this, is to open your new roofing job to leaks. If you must use the valley tin, then an added layer of ice shield under the valley tin would keep leaking water in the valley from penetrating the roof. An added layer of water and ice shield will seal holes from old roofing nails.
  3. Unless the shield or flashing have been compromised, I wouldn't remove them. They are there for a very good reason. To keep your roof from leaking, rotting, falling in. Every time we deck and felt a roof, we always flash our valleys. Valleys create natural waterfall runoffs and will accumulate more ice. The ice dam prevents leakage. These are necessary and I wouldn't remove them unless I intended to replace them. Good luck!
