My nanny agency needs liability insurance, which one should we get?
I run a referral agency in VA, I also have a couple of independent contractors in other states working for me, I want to get liability insurance in case there are ever any problems but don't know what one to get and do not want to be took for a lot of money. Can anyone tell me what one I should get? Just for the record, I am not the nanny myself nor are my reps, we locate nannies to do the work or refer them to families. My reps are not my employees. We have a contractual agreement saying just that, I am not responsible for workmans comp and they are not my employees, at least that is what I have been told.

- Sure, but if a nanny you refer causes a problem YOU are going to be sued for it. You need to contact a large, local independent agency to quote this out. It's likely NOT going to be particularly cheap, ESPECIALLY if you're looking for abuse/molestation defense costs. If you have an "independent contractor" working exclusively for you, they MIGHT be technically considered an employee for Workers Comp purposes. Even if they aren't, you're still responsible (as the general contractor) for any benefits or claims they might submit, in many states. So you ALSO very likely have a workers comp exposure - which is MORE likely to cause you a financial loss, than the liability.
