Home Improvement Contractor - Licensed Contractors

Does a general contractor in CA need to be licensed to be covered by liability insurance?

Please provide a link if possible so that I can print the information.

  1. No, but you're not going to be able to pull any permits without the appropriate licenses.
  2. Yes usually you have to be working in the industry as a superintendent or something equivalent in order to take the test for licensing.
  3. If you are talking about them being covered under workers compensation while doing work on your home ,yes. If a contractor is looking for liability coverage for themselves , yes an no. Yes they would be covered by the insuring agreement in most insurance policies , because have a license is not a insurable condition in most policies. They would not be able to get coverage if they do not already coverage because the insurance company will check for a valid Cont Lic #,prior to issuance.
