What do you guys use to find a home improvement contractor.?

1. Ask around the neighborhood.
2. Look for other houses that you like that had some work done and ask them who did their work.
3. I usually go to www.genietown.com . They have a lot of verified contractors and the contractors actually bid on your work. So I got a contractor to paint my baby's room, was very happy and gave some feedback about the contractor.
4. Check local lumber yards. They know the guys that have done good work and have been around a long time. You can also check your local building department.
5. friends and family even your hair dresser may have some one they have heard about your mechanic your mailman some one at work the list goes on and on you can always use the yellow pages but they cant tell you about the room addition he did for some one and if that roof he put on leaked the following fall
