I am looking for work as a painting sub contractor in tampa but have not been able to learn how to get a license, or if I need one.

Most of the time, subcontractor licenses are for Major components of the home, like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural. These are listed on the site. However, you should have liabiltiy insurance, in case you mess up or accidentally goof up something. All subcontractors need workmans comp in case they fall or get hurt.
