How much would a contractor charge me to drywall?
I have my living room and den that will need to be drywall. Does anybody know roughly what types of quotes I should be expcting? Room 1) 16 * 12.7 Room 2) 15* 14 Room 3) 8 *16 The ceilings would also have to be done as well. I would appreciate any help on this. I would hate to rip out all of these rooms and then realize that it will cost an arm and leg to have it put back.

- Typically it is about $1.25 to $2.25 per square foot. That's wall and ceiling square foot not floor. So a room that is 10 x 10 with 10 foot high ceilings each wall is 100 square feet times four walls which equals 400 s.f. Next I would get estimates before you start any type of demo. I also recommend blue board and plaster not drywall and tape. They are roughly the same price. The price reflects material and labor. If the contractor is a big company they may add another 10 - 15 % Good luck Moskie257
- You know, if you can rip it off, you can put it back on. Why pay a contractor at all, when you can do it yourself with the help of your family and friends. You need to drywall the ceilings first. Use proper drywall screws. Then drywall the walls H O R I Z O N T A L L Y as you see them do in all the home repair shows on TV. Taping is really easy with a little care and attention. Give that job to a couple of anal retentive women. It will look wonderful. Then have a barbeque afterwards-hot dogs and hamburgers and just enough beer for a couple of cans for each adult. So you do the work during the day with your friends, and have the party afterwards to celebrate. Much cheaper than a drywall contractor.
- First, what is the reason that you want to take down the drywall? If it has a few holes, patch them. If nail heads are popping through, use drywall screws and reattach the patch. If they are cracked, dig out the area at least half the thickness and re-mud the area, patch and sand. After you do it all, retexture, prime and paint.
