Can I hang my surround sound speakers without finding a stud?
I just had my basement refinished. We had the contractor put new drywall over existing plaster walls. I had him put holes in the wall for the wires and I want the speakers exactly across from each other. They weigh about 6 lbs. each. Can I just put the screws through the drywall and plaster without locating a stud for hanging?

- Use the screws that come with the plastic anchors and you won't have a problem.
- I would probably go with a molly or toggle bolt, either of which would handle 6 lbs, no sweat.
- If they're not heavy, use expanding bolts in the sheetrock. Available at any hardware store.
- Check out the self drilling dry wall anchors like those on this website. They are available at any hardware store, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart , http://fasteners.hardwarestore.com/19-71-anchors-hollow-wall.aspx Each size should state on the back how much they will hold. I have some holding up a couple of 50 pound mirrors in our bath room.
