- As a businessman, I would hope that you did your research on this before you made the commitment. To ask us about this indicates that you may have made a mistake!
- What contractors have told me is that they get about a 1.00/sqft for exterior and interior house painting plus materials.
- Charge for travel time one way plus time and materials in general. A minimum might be 25 cents per sq. ft. but each job has different needs and expectations. A business plan includes your expectations and should outline how you expect to meet the objective of sustaining your business.
- go to www.salarywizard.com it is a website that guesstimates salary figures for you based on what you do. I would also go to www.tribe.net there are thousands of tribes...I would search one to handyman and start asking questions....you will get a ton of responses from people in your field. It's a great tool
- Do some detective work. Find out what the competition in your area are using for bid rate. You have to be competitive without leaving bonuses on the table. General Rules: When work is slow bid 10% less. When work is plentiful bid 10% more. If you find a good GC that will keep you busy give him a sweetheart deal. If you are winning more than 50% of your bids and staying busy you may want to carve out a little more profit for yourself. Advise: The biggest failure of small business contractors is the lack of cash flow. You must know what your operating expenses and profit margins are in order to set a budget that allows you to pay bills during lean periods. HeadsUp Construction Forum http://g23.proboards106.com/
